I’m Holding My Newborn While My Ex Invites Me to His Wedding, Ready to Expose His Biggest Betrayal

I’m Holding My Newborn While My Ex Invites Me to His Wedding, Ready to Expose His Biggest Betrayal Save

Barrett’s Call from the Nursery

My phone rang just after sunrise, a shrill sound that cut through the room’s soft hum of ventilators.

I was wiped out from giving birth, my body still aching, my daughter sleeping peacefully beside me. Then I saw the name. Barrett Osgood.

Eight months since our divorce, I picked up.

“Come to my wedding,” he said, no hello, no apology. His voice carried that smug edge I’d learned to recognize.

“You should see what a real woman looks like, Elowen. Fern’s pregnant.”

I froze. “Unlike you.”

Beside me, my newborn let out a soft sigh. The sound was a reminder: this was my child, not his.

“You still there?”

“Yes.”

“You always wanted a family. I figured you’d enjoy watching me finally get one.”

The memories flooded back—two miscarriages, endless fertility appointments, Barrett’s cruel jokes, his mother’s sneers, Fern’s poisonous flowers and the note, “Some women are chosen.”

But then I remembered the folder tucked under the bedside table: a leather case heavy with bank statements, emails, affidavits, and the one thing Barrett could never deny—a court‑certified DNA test confirming I was the father.

I slipped the folder into my diaper bag, feeling the paper’s weight like a promise.

“Sure,” I said, voice steady. “You’ll actually come?”

“Of course.”

“Try not to embarrass yourself.”

I smiled, eyes on the bracelet reading Baby Girl Sutter, my name etched on it.

“I won’t,” I whispered, then added, “I have proof.”

The line went silent.

“What’s that supposed to mean?” Barrett asked.

“Send me the address.”

When the call ended, I pressed the folder shut, feeling the heat of the moment settle into a cold resolve. I would go, and I would bring the truth.

Infiltrating Ashborne’s Ballroom

The driver pulled up to the sprawling manor on the outskirts of Ashborne, its stone façade lit by the early afternoon sun.

I stepped out, cradling my newborn in a carrier, the leather folder snug against my hip.

The valet handed me a sleek black badge—“Guest.” Fern’s smile greeted me at the entrance, her hand resting protectively on her round belly.

“Welcome, Elowen,” she said, her voice syrupy, eyes flickering over the badge. “We’re so glad you could make it.”

I returned a polite nod, feeling the weight of every step toward the grand ballroom where the corporate sponsor’s logo—a stylized phoenix—loomed over the marble walls.

Guests mingled, champagne flutes clinking, while the phoenix logo glittered, its wings forming a subtle V, a reminder of the venture capital firm that had funded Barrett’s latest “project.”

Fern floated through the crowd, handing out tiny placards that read “Future Begins Here,” her hand brushing against the backs of strangers as if sealing a pact.
