I’m a mob boss whose loyal Rottweiler uncovers the betrayal hidden beneath my daughter’s funeral in a silent chapel

I’m a mob boss whose loyal Rottweiler uncovers the betrayal hidden beneath my daughter’s funeral in a silent chapel Save

Cold Marble, Lilies, and a Ledger

“Don’t… don’t move!” the trembling voice cut through the chapel’s hush, barely louder than the rustle of black ribbons.

Bruno’s massive frame was frozen beside the casket, his eyes locked on Emily’s pale face.

I pressed my palm against the cold marble, the scent of lilies mingling with stale incense, and felt the weight of all the deals I’d ever made pressing down on me.

“Alex, you alright?” Marco lingered a few steps away, his fingers twitching on the grip of his cane.

I forced a smile, though it cracked at the edges. “Just... thinking.” My voice sounded distant, as if it were echoing from another room.

My thoughts drifted to the night Marco slipped me that secret ledger. The pages were thin, ink smeared with something darker, hinting at a shipment that never arrived.

I could still smell the sea‑salt tang of the cargo, the way the crates had been sealed, and the sudden silence when the ship vanished from the radar.

“That ledger,” I whispered to myself, “you were right to bring it to me.”

Bruno shifted his weight, his massive nose brushing Emily’s cheek, as if trying to convey something only he could sense.

My heart hammered against my ribs, each beat a reminder of the daughter I’d lost and the secret I now held.

“Boss, you okay?” Marco’s voice sounded strained, the crowd’s whispers like ghosts around us.

I stared at the ledger’s memory, the hidden numbers, the route that led us straight into a storm we never saw coming.

“We’ll talk later,” I muttered, turning my gaze to the altar, the stained‑glass windows casting fractured colors across the polished floor.

Snarl, Confession, and the Creaking Door

I lifted my voice, trying to command Bruno. “Bruno… step back.”

The dog’s ears twitched, then a low growl rumbled from his throat, aimed directly at Marco.

The congregation gasped, a collective intake of breath that seemed to suspend time.

“Boss… I know something about the shipment,” Marco stammered, his eyes darting to the ledger I could still feel pulsing in my mind. “If it gets out, the whole empire crumbles.”

His words hung in the stale air, heavy with danger.

Suddenly, the altar doors creaked open, a sound that seemed to echo from the very foundations of the chapel.

A hidden compartment was revealed, the wood sliding aside with a faint metallic clang that rang like a warning.

From the darkness beyond, a shadowy figure darted out, disappearing into the blackness of the nave before anyone could react.

The clang resonated again, this time deeper, as if something moved beneath the floorboards.

Marco’s hand tightened around his cane, his breath shallow. “What the hell…?” he whispered.

I felt Bruno’s muscles tense behind me, ready to spring, while my mind raced to the ledger, the missing shipment, and the danger now lurking below.

Blood‑Stained Ledger and a Forgotten Face

Bruno’s growl faded as I slipped behind the altar, the stone cool against my palm.

The faint clang echoed off the ancient wood, leading me to a concealed panel.

My fingers pried it open; a rusted safe emerged, its hinges sighing like a dying breath.

Inside lay a ledger, its pages drenched in dark crimson, ink smeared as if licked by blood.
