I’m a billionaire father watching my twins die, and a stranger’s secret necklace might be the only thing that can save them.

I’m a billionaire father watching my twins die, and a stranger’s secret necklace might be the only thing that can save them.

Elena in the Office

I slammed the steel door behind her, the echo ricocheting off the marble walls.

“Sit.” I gestured to the leather chair, my voice a low growl.

She obeyed, hands shaking, the silver necklace glinting like a cold promise.

“What do you have?” I demanded, eyes narrowing as I lifted the case she’d slipped under her coat.

She hesitated, then opened it. The necklace lay beside a thin, yellowed folder.

I flipped the cover. The title read: Genetic Prognosis – Confidential. The date: 2015.

My heart stuttered. “Your report predates my twins’ birth.”

Elena’s throat worked. “It was… prepared for them.”

I turned the pages. The first line listed: Jonah Mercer – DOB 2022, Blythe Mercer – DOB 2022.

My breath caught. The same report also bore a code: PROJECT HARBOR.

“Who commissioned this?” I asked, voice barely above a whisper.

She bit her lip. “Your wife. Genevieve. She… gave it to me before she died.”

The necklace trembled in my hand, the blue stone catching the office light like a wounded star.

“Your wife knew.” I said, feeling the floor beneath me shift.

“She wanted to protect them.” Elena’s voice cracked, “But something went wrong.”

I slammed the folder shut. “Find out where this came from.”

Tracing the Origin

Prescott entered, his expression steel. “Sir, I’ve secured the building’s network logs.”

“Good,” I said. “Trace every line from that 2015 file. Follow the digital breadcrumbs.”

He nodded, fingers flying over the console. “It leads to an IP under our own domain, buried beneath the east wing.”

“Under the east wing?” I stood, the weight of my empire suddenly palpable.

Prescott swallowed. “There’s a sub‑level, unlisted in any blueprint. Access codes are… old.”

I felt a cold surge. “Open it.”

He pressed a sequence. The floor vibrated, a hidden hatch groaning open to reveal a stairwell of steel and shadows.

We descended, the air growing stale, the lights flickering as we entered a cavernous room.

Rows of stainless tables stretched beyond sight, each lined with vials sealed in amber glass.

Every vial bore a label: Mercer – DNA Sample. My name, my wife’s, the twins’.

In the center, a cluster of scientists moved with purpose. Dr. Franklin Yates, his mask glinting, looked up.

“Mr. Mercer,” he said, voice flat, “we were expecting you.”

A cold dread settled in my gut. “What is this place?”

Yates gestured to a massive sealed door at the far wall. “Our… contingency.”

Before I could ask, the door shuddered, a high‑pitched whine filling the chamber.

Pressure built, then the seal fractured, panels exploding outward.
