Confronting Marcus

The wealthy Black woman nearly laughed out loud.

Across the luxurious hotel ballroom, a waiter was gathering empty glasses from guests.

She stared.

Then stared again.

No way.

It was Marcus Johnson.

The same Marcus who had once been one of the most successful businessmen in the city.

Yet here he was.

Wearing a waiter's uniform.

Carrying a tray.

Serving drinks.

A smug smile spread across her face.

This was too good.

She stepped straight toward him.

"Marcus?" she called out.

The waiter looked back.

The moment he saw her, he smiled politely.

The woman laughed.

"Oh, poor Marcus."

Several guests looked over.

"You work as a waiter now?"

The room grew silent.

People sensed tension.

Marcus remained calm.

No embarrassment.

No explanation.

Just a simple smile.

"Just for tonight."

The woman burst into laughter.

"Just for tonight?" she mocked.

"That sounds like someone trying to hide how badly things went."

A few guests chuckled.

Others watched silently.

Marcus just nodded and continued serving drinks.

The woman felt victorious.

For years she had envied his success.

Now she finally had a front-row seat to his downfall.

Or so she believed.

The Manager's Revelation

Then— The ballroom doors burst open.

A senior manager hurried inside.

Not toward the stage.

Not toward the VIP guests.

Toward Marcus.

The room slowly fell silent.

The manager stopped in front of him.

"Sir."

Instantly, the atmosphere changed.

"The board members are ready."

Marcus checked his watch.

"Already?"

"Yes, sir.

They're waiting for your final decision."
