I Thought Leaving My Husband for $50 Million Would Free Me, But One Message Changed Everything I Knew

I Thought Leaving My Husband for $50 Million Would Free Me, But One Message Changed Everything I Knew Save

Section 3

I slid into a small corner café, the scent of fresh coffee mingling with the crisp autumn air. My heart raced as I stared at the text on my phone. 'You need to know the truth about Alexander and Sierra.' What truth? I needed answers, but the numbness wrapped around me was suffocating.

A bell jingled above the door, and in walked Rachel, my college roommate and confidante. Her warm smile faded as she spotted my troubled expression. “Evelyn, what’s wrong?”

“It’s Alexander. There’s something I didn’t see coming.”

She sat down, her eyes scanning my face like she could read the chaos swirling in my mind. “You look like you’ve seen a ghost. Is it about Sierra?”

“Yes. Someone sent me a text. I don’t know what to think.”

Rachel leaned closer, her voice low. “Sierra was more than just an employee, you know? She was his assistant for years, practically part of the family.”

I felt my stomach twist. “What do you mean?”

“Rumors have floated around. Some say Alexander might have been unfaithful before the marriage even began.”

My heart sank, my breath hitching as I processed her words. “You think it’s possible he had feelings for her back then?”

“It’s not just feelings,” Rachel added, her eyes narrowing. “There’s more to her pregnancy than anyone knows. You need to dig deeper, Ev.”

Section 4

As I mulled over Rachel's revelations, I barely noticed the faint footsteps approaching. Then, a familiar voice pulled me back. “Evelyn!”

Victoria Thorne stood before me, her face a mask of urgency. “I need to talk to you—please!”

“What are you doing here?” I stammered, taken aback by her suddenly frantic demeanor.

“I came to stop you from making a terrible mistake,” she said, lowering her voice as she slid into the seat across from me. “You don’t understand everything about Alexander. There’s a past…”

My chest tightened. “What past?”

“His first wife, she—she had a tragic history, connected deeply to him and this family.”

Victoria’s words hung in the air, a heavy weight pressing against my heart. “What do you mean?”

“She struggled with mental health issues. It drove a wedge between them, and they separated far too soon. I think it’s affected Alexander in ways you can’t imagine.”

My mind raced, piecing together the fragments of my life with Alexander. Could this be why he had turned to Sierra? I felt a whirlwind of emotions—betrayal, confusion, sorrow.

“Evelyn,” Victoria insisted, her eyes pleading. “You deserve to know the whole truth before you make any decisions.”

In that moment, my phone buzzed again, shattering my thoughts. I glanced down to see another message, my heart racing in anticipation. But when I saw the image, I gasped. It was a photo of my wedding day. The caption read: 'What did you really think he meant by forever?'
