I Revoked My Wedding Before Sunrise and Watched Him Realize I Was Done With His Conditional Love

I Revoked My Wedding Before Sunrise and Watched Him Realize I Was Done With His Conditional Love Save

Taking Control

My heart raced as I pulled my phone from my bag, fingers trembling over the screen. One by one, I tapped to cancel the wedding vendors—florist, caterer, venue. Each confirmation felt like a weight lifting, yet a knot tightened in my stomach. Did I really just do that?

Outside, the Manhattan skyline loomed, indifferent to my turmoil. I glanced at the massive glass building across the street, where Ethan was likely buried in work. He couldn't see me. He had no idea what I was doing, but the power surged through me like electricity.

Evelyn’s voice echoed in my mind, “Don’t make it sound so final.” Final. My fingers hovered over the screen. I wanted to scream, to shake her, to let them all know I was more than an accessory to their plans. I was Morgan, the one who made things happen.

Smoothing my dress, I stepped out of the café where I had made my calls. The bustling streets of New York wrapped around me, a world I was reclaiming. I took a deep breath, feeling the crisp air fill my lungs. I was on my own path now.

But just as the clarity washed over me, the pit in my stomach reminded me of their expectations. Brooke would be waiting for me, excited to discuss every detail. I forced a smile as I approached Ethan’s family home. I couldn’t let them see my uncertainty.

Revealing Cracks

The table was set for dinner, a lavish spread meant to impress, but I felt like a ghost drifting between the plates and laughter. “Morgan, you must try the truffle pasta,” Evelyn said, her voice dripping with sweetness and a hint of judgment. “It’s what we’ll serve at the wedding.”

“Actually, I think I might skip it,” I replied, feeling the weight of their scrutiny. “Ethan, can we talk?”

He looked up from his plate, surprised. “Now? Can’t it wait until after dinner?”

I leaned closer, the tension simmering. “No, it can’t. Your dismissal today—it’s unacceptable. This is our engagement, but you act like it’s a mere title.”

His charming facade began to shift. “Morgan, don’t make it a bigger deal than it is. You’re overreacting,” he said with a condescending smile.

“Overreacting?” I could feel the heat rising in my cheeks. “You flaunt your indifference, and it’s hurtful. If you don’t respect this relationship, why should I?”

His eyes narrowed, fury bubbling beneath his polished demeanor. “You need to understand that I have a reputation to uphold.”

I felt isolated, surrounded by his family’s murmurs, echoing approval of Ethan's dismissive attitude. I excused myself from the table, the shrill laughter fading as I stepped outside for air, my breath coming in quick bursts.

Pulling out my phone, I dialed Chloe. “I need to talk. It’s urgent.”

When she answered, I poured out everything—the confrontation, the feelings of betrayal, the simmering frustration. “You need to stand your ground, Morgan,” she urged. “You deserve better.”

And then she dropped the bombshell: “I saw Ethan with another woman last week at that new bar.”

“What?” My voice trembled. “You can’t be serious.”
