I Lost My Hair on My Son’s Wedding Day and Uncovered a Betrayal that Changed Everything

I Lost My Hair on My Son’s Wedding Day and Uncovered a Betrayal that Changed Everything Save

Section 3

The reception hall sparkled with chandeliers and laughter, yet I felt a weight in my chest as I searched for Rowan. He stood at the center, locked in a tender moment with Selene, his eyes glowing with admiration. My heart swelled with pride, and then twisted with dread.

“Rowan!” I called, raising my voice above the din. But Selene, like a hawk, swooped in, her arm wrapping possessively around his. “Honey, we need to discuss our plans for the honeymoon,” she chirped, her smile bright yet somehow sinister.

I wanted to pull him aside, to talk about the unease gnawing at me, but each time I tried, she was there, drawing him back with a practiced ease that made my skin crawl. “It’s a beautiful day, isn’t it?” she cooed, leaning into him as he nodded, oblivious to the storm brewing beneath the surface.

Mirelle, my loyal housekeeper, approached me, concern etched on her face. “Have you seen Selene around, Mrs. Alaric?” she whispered, glancing around as if Selene might be lurking nearby. “I saw her in your study last night, wolfing down your pastries.”

My breath caught. “In my study?” I echoed, my mind racing. What was she doing in my room long after the guests had left? It felt wrong, so very wrong. I could sense there was something beneath her polished exterior.

Section 4

After a few glasses of champagne, I felt a surge of courage. I spotted Selene chatting animatedly with a group of guests, her laughter spilling like silver coins onto the floor. I marched up, my heart pounding as I cleared my throat.

She crossed her arms, her facade of charm slipping away. “Because I see through your influence over Rowan,” she spat, her hostility palpable. “You have no idea what it takes to secure our future.”

“What does that mean?” I pressed, feeling the tension erupt between us. Her smile returned, but it held no warmth. “I have a plan to make sure we’re financially stable, with or without your approval,” she sneered.

My hands trembled as I turned to leave, a thousand thoughts spinning in my mind. But then, a chilling phrase froze me in place.

“The inheritance will be ours soon,” Selene whispered to a passing guest, her voice dripping with satisfaction.

My heart sank, the world around me blurring into a haze. How could she speak so openly about something so sacred? The words echoed in my ears, leaving me frozen in shock.
