Confronting the Truth

“What is it?” Marcus asked, stepping closer. I hesitated, weighing my words carefully. If I shared that message, would he feel empowered to keep secrets?

“It’s nothing. Just spam,” I finally said, forcing a smile.

But that didn’t stop me from searching the sender’s number later that night. The moment I did, I found a name: Patricia Reynolds.

My hands trembled as I pulled up the contact details. No one knew this number existed. She had kept it hidden. My heart raced at the revelation. What was she still keeping from me?

A sense of dread settled deep in my chest. She was still a player in this game.

Thinking back, I remembered the way Patricia had looked at me during the confrontation in her house, the flicker of something in her eyes. Fear? No, it was something darker.

“You are a threat to my family.”

It resonated with unsettling clarity now.

I knew I had to confront her. But not now. Not during this fragile family reunion. When the children were asleep, when Marcus was distracted, I would find a way.

And then the next day arrived, heavy with uncertainty. Would I lose everything again? I had fought so hard.

As I stood outside Patricia's office, my heart hammered in my ears. I hadn’t prepared for this. But if I didn’t do it now, when would I?

“This is about my children, and I won’t let you take them from me.”

With that thought, I pushed the door open, feeling both terrified and ready.

The Final Reveal

The air in Patricia's office was thick, suffocating with unspoken histories and hidden agendas. She looked up, her expression morphing from surprise to skepticism.

“Kesha. What an unexpected visit.”

“We need to talk.”

Her posture stiffened. “About what, exactly?”

“About the hidden money. About Ashley’s child. About everything you’ve kept from me.”

“You don’t understand, dear. I did it all for the family. For Marcus.”

“Stop pretending this is just about Marcus. It’s about control, and you’re losing it.”

For a moment, I thought she might laugh. “You think you’ve got the upper hand?”

“I KNOW I do,” I replied, fire behind my words.

And just as I began to feel a sense of victory, her face grew cold.

“You have no idea what you’re really fighting for.”

Those words hung heavily between us. I took a step back. “What do you mean?”

“It’s not just money, Kesha. It’s a legacy.”

My pulse quickened. This was bigger than I had anticipated. “What do you mean?”

Patricia remained silent for a moment, and I could see her calculating her next move.
