I Had Five Minutes to Save My Daughter’s Dream Night from a Truth I Dreaded to Reveal

I Had Five Minutes to Save My Daughter’s Dream Night from a Truth I Dreaded to Reveal Save

Confrontation in the Living Room

As I tried to steady my breathing, Ryan’s gaze bore into me, sharp and demanding. It felt like he could see through my facade, right into the chaos swirling in my mind. I fought to keep my expression neutral, but the tension pulsed between us like a live wire.

“So, Iris,” Ryan said, turning slightly to face her, though his eyes never left mine. “You wouldn’t believe some of the things people were saying at the party.”

Iris looked back at him, her excitement momentarily piqued. “What do you mean?” She tucked a strand of hair behind her ear, her eyes sparkling with curiosity.

“Well, there was this conversation about your dad.” Ryan’s tone shifted, growing serious. “It caught me off guard, honestly. I didn’t know if I should say something.”

My heart sank, dread coiling in my stomach. I felt the walls closing in. “Ryan, wait—” I started, but his focus remained locked on Iris.

“They were talking about him, you know? The mystery surrounding why he’s not in your life. I didn’t realize how much it affected everyone,” Ryan said, leaning closer to Iris.

Iris’s expression shifted from delight to confusion, reflecting the storm brewing in me. “What do you mean? No one talks about him.”

I gripped the edge of the couch, my knuckles white. The implications of Ryan’s words echoed in my mind. How much did he know? What had been said? I could feel my pulse quickening, every beat reminding me of the secret I had hoped would stay buried.

The Weight of Secrets

I had to redirect this conversation, to shield Iris from the truth I had kept hidden for so long. “Some things are best left unsaid,” I blurted, my voice trembling slightly.

But Iris leaned in, clearly not satisfied. “Mom, why are you acting weird? I want to know!”

Ryan shot me a look that was both challenging and protective. “It’s important for her to understand, though,” he said, his voice low and serious. “This isn’t just about your father, Iris. It’s about who you are.”

My breath hitched. The clarity of his words hung heavily in the air, and I could see the wheels turning in Iris's mind. She had always struggled with her identity—without a father, she felt incomplete. But did I really want Ryan to unlock this door?

As Iris opened her mouth to respond, a flicker of recognition crossed her face—was it fear? Confusion?—and in that moment, the air thickened. “What are you saying?” she whispered, her voice shaking.

Before I could reply, the tension threatened to burst, and I was trapped in a web of uncertainty. Iris’s face paled, her expression shifting as she realized the weight of what Ryan was implying. Her eyes darted between us, searching for answers.

In the climactic moment, Iris’s reaction to the revelation of her father's identity sent her reeling, questioning everything she knew about her family.
