I Discovered My Husband’s Secret in a Locked Room, and It Shattered Everything I Thought I Knew

I Discovered My Husband’s Secret in a Locked Room, and It Shattered Everything I Thought I Knew Save

Confronting Ivy Again

I took a deep breath as I entered the café, the aroma of freshly brewed coffee mixing with a sense of dread. Ivy sat at a corner table, her fingers nervously tracing the rim of her cup, the tension palpable between us.

"I need to know if you have feelings for Owen," I said, my voice steady but my insides a twisted knot. The question hung in the air, heavy with implications.

She froze, her gaze dropping to the table. For a moment, I thought I saw a flicker of something in her eyes—guilt? Longing?—but it disappeared as quickly as it came. "It's complicated," she muttered, her voice barely above a whisper. My heart raced. It was the answer I feared.

I pressed on, desperate for clarity. "You work with him closely, and Jamie loves you. Are you in love with him?"

"I... I can't talk about that," Ivy stammered, her hands shaking slightly.

Before I could respond, her phone buzzed violently on the table. She glanced down, her face draining of color. Panic swept over her as she quickly stood, glancing back at me with wide eyes. "I have to go," she said, her voice cracking.

"Wait!" I called, reaching for her arm. But she slipped away, leaving me in stunned silence, more questions echoing in my mind than before.

The Final Confrontation

I rushed home, my heart pounding against my ribs. Owen was in the garage, his phone clutched in trembling fingers. When he saw me, his expression shifted from surprise to dread.

"We need to talk," I said, my voice unwavering despite the chaos within me.

I revealed everything Ivy had told me, the words tumbling out in a frantic rush. "She hesitated when I asked about her feelings for you. What’s going on between you two?"

Owen's face fell, his shoulders slumping as if the weight of the world had landed on him. "I... I didn't want you to find out this way," he whispered, eyes filled with pain.

"What way?" I demanded, my heart racing. "What is there to find out?"

He took a shaky breath, the emotional distance I had sensed now laid bare. "I haven't been myself since Molly died. Ivy was supposed to help me through it, to help both of us." His voice cracked, and tears glistened in his eyes.

“Help you how? By keeping secrets?” I felt a twist in my gut, the room spinning as I understood. This wasn’t an affair; it was grief. Grief had pulled them into each other’s orbits, rather than infidelity.

With every word he spoke, the pieces fell into place. Ivy wasn’t a threat; she was a lifeline. My marriage hung in the balance, teetering between understanding and betrayal, a revelation that left me breathless.
