Husband's Shocking Request at Father's Funeral Sparks Betrayal and Revelation

Husband's Shocking Request at Father's Funeral Sparks Betrayal and Revelation
← Previous Part (1) Reading Part 2 of 3

He pressed a button, and the room filled with my father’s voice. It was clear and strong, as if he were speaking to us from beyond the grave.

“Lydia, my dearest daughter, if you are hearing this, it means I am no longer with you. I want you to know how much I love you and how proud I am of the person you’ve become. But there is something important I need to tell you.”

My heart pounded as I listened, every word a echo of my father’s presence. Ethan shifted uncomfortably in his seat, his eyes darting around the room.

“Ethan, I know you and your family have been struggling. I understand the pressure you’ve been under, but I want you to know that Lydia’s inheritance is hers alone. It is not to be used to solve your financial problems. I’ve made arrangements to ensure that she is protected and that her future is secure.”

Ethan’s face turned pale, and he stood up abruptly. “Turn that off! Right now!” he shouted, his voice cracking with desperation.

Chapter 3: The Hidden Truth

Martin paused the recording, his eyes meeting Ethan’s with a calm but firm gaze. “I suggest you sit down, Ethan. This is important.”

Ethan hesitated, his hands trembling. He slowly sank back into his chair, his eyes darting between the cellphone and the rest of us. Marjorie’s face was a mask of shock, but there was a glimmer of something else—fear, perhaps, or calculation.

“Your father was a wise man,” Martin continued, resuming the recording. “He knew about the financial struggles of your family, Ethan, and he was sympathetic. But he also knew that Lydia’s inheritance was meant to be a safety net for her, not a solution to your problems.”

The recording played on, revealing more of my father’s thoughts and concerns. He spoke of the importance of trust and integrity, and how he had always hoped that Ethan would be a supportive and loving husband to me, not someone who would use my inheritance for his own gain.

“Lydia, I have set up a trust fund for you that will provide for you and your future. The details will be explained by Martin. I want you to know that I have also made provisions to help Ethan’s family, but in a way that is fair and just. No one should be taken advantage of, and no one should be used.”

The room was silent as the recording ended. Martin turned off the cellphone and looked at each of us in turn. “Your father’s will is very clear,” he said. “Lydia’s inheritance is hers alone, and it is protected. However, he has set aside a sum of money to help Ethan’s family, but it comes with certain conditions.”

Ethan’s face was a mix of emotions—shame, anger, and a hint of relief. “What conditions?” he asked, his voice barely above a whisper.

“The money is to be used to pay off Caleb’s restaurant loans and to help Marjorie with her credit card debt. However, it is not to be used to purchase the house she has her eye on. Your father believed that a more modest and practical solution would be better for your family’s long-term stability.”

Marjorie’s face flushed with anger. “You can’t do this!” she exclaimed, her voice shrill. “We’ve worked hard, and we deserve better!”

Martin’s expression remained calm. “Your father’s wishes are final. The will is legally binding, and there is no room for negotiation.”

Ethan looked at me, his eyes filled with a complex mix of emotions. “Lydia, I’m sorry. I didn’t realize—”

“Save your apologies for later,” I interrupted, my voice steady. “Right now, we need to focus on what my father wanted for all of us.”

Chapter 4: The Will Reading

The tension in the room was palpable as Martin began to read the will. Each word seemed to carry the weight of my father’s legacy and the future of our family. He began with the details of the trust fund set up for me, explaining that it would provide a steady income and support for my education and any future endeavors I chose to pursue.

“Lydia, my dear, I want you to have the freedom to live your life as you choose,” my father’s words echoed through Martin’s reading. “Use this trust wisely, and remember that true wealth is not just in money, but in the love and support of those around you.”
