How I Took Back My Identity and My Family’s Fortune on My Son’s Wedding Day

Tension crackled in the air as I cornered Camille outside the reception hall. “I heard you talking to your mother,” I said, forcing the words through clenched teeth. “What are you planning?”
Her smile only widened. “Oh, did you now? You must be careful, Odette. Eavesdropping isn’t becoming for a mother on her son’s wedding day.”
“This isn’t a joke, Camille! You’ve been scheming behind my back.”
She leaned closer, her voice a soft hiss. “You really don’t understand, do you? Miles needs to be free of you. I’m going to have him declared unfit to manage the inheritance. It’ll be easy once the money is in our hands.”
My heart raced, each beat echoing my disbelief. “You think he’ll let you do this?”
“He trusts me completely,” she replied, her eyes dancing with malice. “After all, he married me. Me, not you.”
I staggered back, nausea churning in my stomach. “You’re manipulating him. You can’t just take his father’s legacy!”
Camille only shrugged, her nonchalance infuriating. “It’ll be ours entirely. You’d do best to accept that.”
Breathless, I turned to find Miles. “Miles!” I called, desperation lacing my voice. “You need to listen to me!”
He faced me, irritation etched across his features. “Mom, stop making a scene. This is my wedding.”
“Camille is using you! You don’t see it?”
“You’re being dramatic. Just stop!”
His dismissal cut deeper than I expected. I swallowed hard and pressed on, “She’s turning you against me. You won’t let her do this!”
He turned away, seeking the comfort of Camille’s side. A final, crushing weight settled in my chest as I realized I had lost him completely. She had already set things in motion to sever my access to our family fortune. The thought made me feel hollow.

In the chaos of the reception, a sudden urgency gripped me. I rushed to my room, heart pounding as I gathered evidence; texts, recordings, witness statements—everything I needed to expose Camille. As I sorted through the papers, each item felt like a lifeline.
Just as I steadied my nerves, my phone rang. It was my lawyer, a voice I always counted on for strength.
“Odette, we need to talk. A court date has been set already to contest the inheritance. Camille is listed as a beneficiary.”
Everything froze. The room spun as I processed his words. “What? How could this happen?”
“I’m sorry. It appears she’s been preparing this for some time.”
“But Miles—he wouldn’t let her!” I yelled, searching for hope. But something cold and clear settled in my gut.
“Odette, there’s more. Miles knew about all of this. He’s been complicit in her scheme to cut ties with you.”
My breath hitched, the weight of betrayal crushing me. I clutched the evidence to my chest, but all I felt was a growing void where my son should have been. As the realization sank in, the world around me faded, leaving only the stark clarity of loss.
