The warm breeze over the Evermere Isles should have felt like the beginning of happily-ever-after. Instead, by the third day of my honeymoon, something felt terribly wrong. I had returned to our suite on the Mercer Star, a multimillion-dollar luxury yacht given to us as a wedding gift by my billionaire father, to grab some medicine for my headache. As I entered the room, I overheard my husband, Ryan, talking on the phone in hushed tones.
I approached him quietly, not wanting to interrupt his conversation. But what I heard made my blood run cold. "Yes, I know it's a lot to ask, but I need this to be done... She's worth $300 million, and I'm the only one who can get it... Don't worry, I'll take care of her. She'll be gone, and no one will ever suspect a thing... Just make sure the insurance policy is in place, and we'll be set for life."
A Sinister Plot Unfolds
I felt like I had been punched in the gut. What was Ryan talking about? And who was he talking to? I tried to process what I had just heard, but my mind was racing. I knew I had to get out of there, to get some fresh air and clear my head. But as I turned to leave, I caught Ryan's eye. He quickly ended the call and approached me, a charming smile on his face. "Hey, beautiful, what's wrong? You look like you've seen a ghost." I tried to play it cool, but my heart was racing. "I just need some air, that's all," I said, trying to brush past him. But Ryan's grip on my arm was tight. "What's going on, Ryan?" I asked, trying to keep my voice steady. "You're not planning anything, are you?" Ryan's smile faltered for a moment, and I saw a glimmer of something sinister in his eyes. And then, everything went black.
I woke up to the sound of Ryan's voice, calling my name. I was lying on the bed, my head pounding. "Hey, are you okay? You fainted," Ryan said, concern etched on his face. But I knew it was all an act. I had heard him, and I knew what he was capable of. I tried to sit up, but a wave of dizziness washed over me. Ryan helped me back down, holding me in his arms. "Maybe you should stay in bed for a while," he said, his voice low and soothing. But I knew I had to get out of there, to escape from him before it was too late.
A Web of Deceit
I pretended to agree, to rest for a while. But as soon as Ryan left the room, I started to think. I had to get to the bottom of this, to uncover the truth. I started to search the room, looking for any clues. And then, I found it - a small notebook hidden in Ryan's drawer. As I flipped through the pages, my heart sank. It was a detailed plan, a plan to push me overboard and make it look like an accident. I felt a chill run down my spine. I had to get off the yacht, and fast. But as I turned to leave, I heard Ryan's voice behind me. "Looking for something, my dear?" he asked, his eyes glinting with malice.
I tried to play it cool, to act like I hadn't found anything. But Ryan's eyes narrowed, and I knew he didn't believe me. "I think it's time we had a little chat," he said, his voice dripping with menace. I tried to stay calm, to think of a way to escape. But Ryan's grip on my arm was tight, and I knew I was trapped. "You're not going anywhere," he hissed, his face inches from mine. I felt a surge of fear, and I knew I had to think fast. I tried to reason with him, to appeal to whatever humanity was left in him. But Ryan just laughed, a cold, mirthless sound. "You're just a means to an end," he spat. "And soon, you'll be nothing but a memory."
