Confronting Owen

Clara’s heart thudded in her chest as she marched into the sleek lobby of Owen’s firm, determination mingling with fear. She spotted him immediately, hunched over a conference table with Lindsay, who cradled her baby bump as if it held the secrets to a new life.

“I need to talk to you,” Clara said, her voice slicing through the chatter of colleagues. Owen looked up, surprised, then annoyed. “Not now, Clara. We’re busy.”

“Busy plotting how to cut me out completely?” she shot back, the words tasting like venom on her tongue.

“You’re a complication I don’t want,” Owen replied coldly, shrugging off her accusation as if it were nothing.

Clara’s throat tightened. “Is that all I am to you now? A complication?”

“You know I didn’t want any of this,” he snapped, but the flicker of guilt in his eyes told her otherwise. “Lindsay and I are starting a family.”

A fierce anger surged within her. “You think you can pin this on me? I’m not just going to roll over and let you take everything.”

“Stop making this worse, Clara. It’s already too messy,” he said, his voice low. “I’ll contest the will if I have to. You won’t get a dime.”

“You’re threatening me?” Clara’s voice rose, drawing the attention of nearby coworkers. “I’m not afraid of you, Owen. I’ll expose the truth.”

He leaned closer, eyes narrowing. “Go ahead. But your reputation? I could ruin it with a single word, and you know it.”

Desperation flooded her. “You think you can scare me? I’ll fight back with everything I have.” She turned on her heel, determination burning bright, but uncertainty gnawed at her insides.

The Hidden Truth

Back at home, Clara rifled through Beatrice’s old papers, her mind racing with anger and fear. There had to be something, anything, to turn the tide in her favor. The hidden letter loomed in her thoughts, a mystery she needed to unravel.

Suddenly, she stumbled upon the original will tucked between two faded photographs. Heart pounding, she read the stipulations. Everything was left to her, but there was a catch—she had to prove her worth, to stand up against manipulations, particularly from Owen.

“What the hell…” she whispered, her breath hitching as realization hit her like a freight train.

Owen knew. He had known all along about the stipulation, using it like a noose to keep her from claiming what was rightfully hers. A wave of nausea crashed over her.

“You bastard,” she muttered, fury igniting in her chest. She’d been played, a pawn in a game she thought she could win. She sank down onto the floor, clutching the will as if it could shield her from the unraveling chaos.

But just as she felt the rush of empowerment, her phone buzzed violently against the wooden floor. An anonymous text lit up the screen: “Stay out of it, Clara. You won't claim anything.”

Clara’s heart sank. The threat loomed over her like a dark cloud, cold and suffocating. The fight was far from over, and every instinct told her that she had just entered a war.
