Sarah, her eyes narrowed, turned to Michael. “So, all this…the anger, the throwing of the dinner, the shouting…it wasn’t about me. It was about Daniel. You were afraid I’d find out, weren’t you? Afraid I’d leave you if I knew you had another child.” Michael remained silent, his guilt palpable. He'd been so desperate to keep his secret, he'd allowed Sarah to take the blame, to be seen as the villain. But the real villain was him, and the truth was about to come crashing down.

Karma's Arrival

The weight of his lies finally crushed Michael. He sank into a chair, his face buried in his hands. “I messed up,” he whispered, his voice choked with emotion. “I really messed up.” Sarah, after a long, agonizing silence, spoke. “You didn’t just mess up, Michael. You destroyed everything. Our trust, our happiness…everything.” She took a deep breath, steeling herself. “I need time to think. I need to decide if I can even look at you again.”

But the biggest shock was yet to come. As Sarah walked toward the door, intending to leave, Olivia spoke again. "There's one more thing." She turned to Daniel, who had been standing quietly by her side, observing the chaos with a stoic expression. “Daniel, why don’t you show them the card you made for your father?”

Daniel, a sweet-faced boy with Michael’s eyes, hesitantly stepped forward and handed a crudely drawn Christmas card to Michael. On the front, in brightly colored crayon, it read: “To My Daddy, I hope you have a Merry Christmas.” But inside, written in a child’s unsteady handwriting, was a single, devastating sentence: “Mommy said you don’t want to be my daddy.”

As Michael read the message, a figure emerged from the hallway. It was my lawyer, Mr. Henderson, holding a thick legal document. “Mrs. Davies,” he said, his voice calm and professional. “I have some news regarding your late husband’s estate. It seems he secretly remortgaged the house, using it as collateral for a series of bad investments. You are now facing foreclosure.” He paused, then added, “However, there’s a clause in the contract. If your son, Michael, publicly acknowledges Daniel as his son and contributes a significant portion of his inheritance to settle the debts, the foreclosure proceedings will be halted.” The irony was staggering. The son Michael tried to erase was now the only one who could save them all.

Sarah, looking at Michael with a newfound clarity, simply said, “Karma has a way of arriving right on time.” Michael, defeated and humbled, looked at Daniel, then at Sarah, and finally at me. He knew what he had to do. It wouldn’t be easy, but he had to face the consequences of his actions and finally embrace the son he had denied for so long. And perhaps, just perhaps, he could begin to rebuild the shattered pieces of his life.
