Classmates Bring Prom to Hospital Room for Teen with Leukemia, But That’s Not the Most Surprising Part

Classmates Bring Prom to Hospital Room for Teen with Leukemia, But That’s Not the Most Surprising Part
← Previous Part (1) Reading Part 2 of 3

"Daryl, what is this?" I stammered, staring at the envelope as if it might burn me.

"Carol gave it to me last week. She told me to give it to you tonight, before the last song. She said you'd need to know by then. Please, Mrs. Linda. Just open it."

My hands trembled as I opened the envelope.

The moment I saw what was inside, I felt sick.

I screamed so loudly that people across the hospital heard me:

"How could Carol hide something like THIS from me?!"

My brave, beautiful girl had been carrying a devastating secret all by herself... 𝑻𝒉𝒆 𝒇𝒖𝒍𝒍 𝒔𝒕𝒐𝒓𝒚 𝒄𝒐𝒏𝒕𝒊𝒏𝒖𝒆𝒔 𝒊𝒏 𝒕𝒉𝒆 𝒇𝒊𝒓𝒔𝒕 𝒄𝒐𝒎𝒎𝒆𝒏𝒕.

I was rinsing out my daughter Carol's water cup when Nurse Jenny appeared with an unusual look on her face and asked me to step into the hallway. I assumed it was paperwork. Instead, I stepped through the door and absolutely froze. The hallway was full of teenagers. Boys in rented suits with crooked ties. Girls in long dresses paired with sneakers. They carried pizza boxes, balloons, and a Bluetooth speaker.

A Surprise in the Hallway

Carol's best friend, Daryl, stepped forward. "We talked to Dr. Patel. She said it was okay. We wanted to bring prom to Carol." I burst into tears. When they crowded into her room, Carol let out a sound I'll never forget. It was a mix of surprise, joy, and sadness all at once. The room was filled with the sound of laughter and music as they set up a mini prom party.

As I watched, one of the students handed me an envelope and said, "Ma'am, THIS IS THE REAL REASON WE'RE HERE." I took the envelope, feeling a sense of confusion and curiosity. What could be inside that would make them say it's the real reason they're here? I looked at Carol, who was smiling and laughing with her friends, and felt a sense of gratitude towards these teenagers. But as I turned the envelope over in my hands, I couldn't shake off the feeling that something more was going on.

The party continued, with the students dancing and singing along to the music. Carol was beaming with joy, and for a moment, I forgot about her illness and the struggles we had been facing. But as the night wore on, I couldn't help but think about the envelope and what it could contain. I decided to open it later, when the party was over and the students had left.

A Night to Remember

As the night came to a close, the students said their goodbyes and thanked me for letting them bring prom to Carol. As they filed out of the room, I felt a sense of relief wash over me. It had been a long and emotional night, but it had also been a reminder that there was still kindness and compassion in the world. I looked at Carol, who was exhausted but happy, and felt a sense of gratitude towards these teenagers. But as I turned to leave, I noticed that one of the students had left behind a small notebook.

I picked it up, thinking it might belong to one of the students, but as I flipped through the pages, I realized it was Carol's leather journal. The one she had been writing in every day. I felt a sense of curiosity and began to read the entries. As I read, I discovered that Carol had been writing letters to her classmates, but not just any letters. They were letters of gratitude, apology, and forgiveness. But why? And what did it have to do with the envelope and the student's comment?

I spent the rest of the night reading through the journal, trying to understand what was going on. The letters were heartfelt and sincere, but they also revealed a deeper story. A story of struggles, of fears, and of hopes. As I read, I felt a sense of pride and admiration for my daughter. She had been going through so much, but she had still found the strength to think of others and to try to make a difference.

The truth was finally coming out — and there was no turning back now… (Continue to Part 3 →)
