Bride’s Parents Demand She Give Sister Half Her Savings Before Walking Down the Aisle

Bride’s Parents Demand She Give Sister Half Her Savings Before Walking Down the Aisle
← Previous Part (1) Reading Part 2 of 3

“Go ahead,” I repeated, my voice surprisingly steady. The words hung in the air. My mother’s face went white. “Jade, don’t be ridiculous. This is your sister! Your family!” “My family is already asking me for half my life savings on my wedding day,” I pointed out, keeping my tone even. “I think that speaks volumes.” Dad’s jaw clenched. He moved towards the sound system. “You’ll regret this.”

Before he could reach it, I spoke again, louder this time, addressing the unseen guests. “Excuse me, everyone. It seems there’s a slight delay. My parents and I are just having a…family discussion.” A ripple of murmurs reached the suite. Then, the music cut out completely. My mother’s hand hovered over the microphone, then dropped as if burned. A single, horrified realization dawned in her eyes. The photographer poked his head in. "Everything alright, Jade?" I gave him a tight nod. "Perfectly alright. Just a minor hiccup." But the photographer's face betrayed his doubt. He’d clearly overheard something.

Secrets Under the Surface

The silence in the bridal suite was thick enough to cut with a knife. My parents stood frozen, their carefully constructed façade crumbling. “You deliberately…” Mom sputtered, unable to finish the sentence. “I anticipated you’d try to strong-arm me, as usual,” I said. “I simply ensured everyone else would hear it too.” Owen appeared in the doorway, his expression a mixture of concern and confusion. “What’s going on? I heard… voices?”

“Owen, darling,” my mother said, attempting to regain control. “There’s just a small disagreement. Nothing to worry about.” Owen wasn't buying it. He stepped fully into the room, his gaze sweeping between me and my parents. “A disagreement involving a financial demand on your wedding day?” I nodded, bracing myself. “They want half my savings for Paige.” Owen’s jaw tightened. “That’s… unbelievable.” He turned to my parents. “You’re seriously doing this? On her wedding day?”

Dad sighed, running a hand through his hair. “It’s not that simple, Owen. Paige is struggling. She’s always struggled. And Jade has been… fortunate.” “Fortunate?” I scoffed. “I’ve worked my tail off for everything I have! And Paige has consistently made choices that leave her vulnerable.” Then, a small, metallic glint caught my eye. On the vanity, almost hidden beneath a scattering of makeup brushes, was a folder. Marked simply: “Paige – Contingency.” I hadn’t seen it before. Curiosity overriding my anger, I reached for it. The file contained bank statements. Paige's bank statements. And they showed a pattern of regular, substantial deposits… from an untraceable offshore account.

The Unraveling Truth

I flipped through the documents, my hands trembling. The deposits started five years ago, shortly after I’d received a significant inheritance from my grandmother. The amounts correlated almost exactly with the ‘loans’ my parents claimed Paige needed. “What is this?” I asked, my voice barely a whisper. My mother’s face paled further. Dad attempted to snatch the folder, but Owen blocked him. “Let her see it,” Owen said, his voice firm. “What have you been hiding?”
