A Surrogate's Shocking Revelation: Twin Brother's Heartbreaking Decision After Baby's Birth

A Surrogate's Shocking Revelation: Twin Brother's Heartbreaking Decision After Baby's Birth
← Previous Part (1) Reading Part 2 of 3

“You promised Vanessa a family, Ethan! You can’t just… reject your own daughter because of a silly superstition!” I exclaimed, struggling to maintain composure. The nurses were trying to give us space, offering sympathetic glances, but the tension in the room was palpable.

Chapter 3: The Hidden Inheritance

Ethan finally met my gaze, his eyes filled with a desperate plea. “It’s not superstition, Claire! It’s… it’s about protecting Vanessa, protecting our family. Silas… he lost everything. His wife, his farm… his mind.” He paused, then lowered his voice. “There’s more, Claire. There’s a trust fund. Silas left a trust fund, but it’s conditional. It states that if a Bennett child is born with the mark… the entire inheritance goes to the Bellmere Historical Society. It’s a substantial amount of money, Claire. Enough to secure our future, to start a college fund for Noah.”

I stared at him, stunned. He was willing to abandon his daughter, not just out of fear, but for money? “You’re serious? You’d sacrifice your own child for an inheritance?” Vanessa, who had been silently weeping, looked up, her eyes filled with a mixture of horror and betrayal. “Ethan… you can’t be serious.” He avoided her gaze, his jaw clenched. “It’s not just about the money, Vanessa. It’s about ensuring a stable future for our family. For Noah.”

A chilling realization dawned on me. Ethan hadn't just been involved in the process; he’d been meticulously preparing for this possibility. He’d researched the trust fund, calculated the financial implications. He'd even subtly steered the conversation towards the Bennett legacy in recent months, testing the waters. He hadn't asked me to be his surrogate out of love; he'd seen me as a vessel, a means to an end. And now, the end had arrived, and it was far more sinister than I could have imagined.

Vanessa, her face stained with tears, rose weakly from the bed. “I need to get out of here,” she whispered, her voice barely audible. She stumbled towards the door, but Ethan reached out and grabbed her arm.

Chapter 4: The Weight of Secrets

“Vanessa, please. Just listen to me. I’m doing this for us. For our future.” She wrenched her arm free, her eyes blazing with anger. “Don’t you dare tell me you’re doing this for me! You’re doing this for the money, for your own selfish reasons! You’re willing to abandon your own flesh and blood because of a ridiculous birthmark and a dusty old trust fund!” She turned to me, her voice pleading. “Claire, tell him he’s wrong. Tell him he’s making a mistake.”

I struggled to find the words, torn between my loyalty to my brother and my horror at his actions. "Ethan," I began, "there has to be another way. Therapy, counseling… we can figure this out." He shook his head, his expression resolute. “No, Claire. There isn’t. The trust stipulates the funds revert immediately upon the child’s birth with the mark. We’ve already consulted lawyers. It’s airtight.” He glanced at Vanessa, a flicker of guilt crossing his face. “I know this is hard, but it’s the right decision. For all of us.”
