Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 1 lb (450 g) ground chicken
  • 1 tablespoon vegetable oil
  • 8 large butter lettuce leaves (or romaine)

Sauce/Marinade

  • 3 tablespoons hoisin sauce
  • 1 tablespoon soy sauce (or tamari for gluten‑free)
  • 1 teaspoon toasted sesame oil
  • 1 tablespoon rice vinegar
  • 1 teaspoon honey (or maple syrup)

Seasonings & Garnish

  • 2 garlic cloves, minced
  • 1 teaspoon fresh ginger, grated
  • 2 scallions, thinly sliced (green and white parts)
  • 1 tablespoon toasted sesame seeds
  • Salt and freshly ground black pepper, to taste

Instructions

Cooking & Combining

  1. Heat the Pan. Place a large skillet over medium‑high heat and add the vegetable oil. When the oil shimmers (about 30 seconds), it’s hot enough to sear the chicken without sticking.
  2. Sauté the Chicken. Add the seasoned ground chicken, breaking it up with a wooden spoon. Cook, stirring occasionally, for 4‑5 minutes until the meat loses its pink color and starts to brown.
  3. Introduce Aromatics. Push the chicken to the side of the pan, then add minced garlic, grated ginger, and the white parts of the scallions. Stir for 30 seconds until fragrant—be careful not to let them burn, which would add bitterness.
  4. Incorporate the Sauce. Pour the hoisin mixture over the chicken and aromatics. Reduce heat to medium and stir to coat every crumb. Let the sauce simmer for 2‑3 minutes, allowing it to thicken and cling to the meat.
  5. Finish with Garnish. Remove the pan from heat. Sprinkle toasted sesame seeds and the green parts of the scallions over the mixture, giving a final burst of texture and color.
  6. Assemble the Wraps. Lay a lettuce leaf on a plate, spoon 2‑3 tablespoons of the chicken mixture into the cup, and fold the leaf around the filling. Repeat for each leaf, serving immediately while warm.
