Ingredients

Main Ingredients

  • 4 boneless, skinless chicken breasts (about 1½ lbs)
  • 6 cups day‑old French bread, cubed
  • 1 cup low‑sodium chicken broth
  • ½ cup unsalted butter, melted

Vegetables & Aromatics

  • 1 cup diced celery
  • 1 cup diced onion
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced

Seasonings & Finishing

  • 1 tablespoon fresh sage, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh thyme leaves
  • ½ teaspoon salt
  • ¼ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ cup grated Parmesan cheese

Instructions

Cooking Process

  1. Brown the Chicken. Heat 2 tablespoons of olive oil in a large skillet over medium‑high heat. Once shimmering, add the chicken breasts and sear 4–5 minutes per side until a deep golden crust forms. This step locks in juices and adds caramelized flavor.
  2. Sauté the Vegetables. Remove the chicken temporarily and add the diced onion, celery, and garlic to the same pan. Cook, stirring occasionally, for about 3 minutes until softened and fragrant, deglazing the pan with a splash of broth to lift browned bits.
  3. Combine Stuffing Ingredients. In a large mixing bowl, combine the butter‑coated bread cubes, sautéed vegetables, remaining broth, and a drizzle of the pan juices. Toss gently until the bread is evenly moistened but not soggy.
  4. Assemble the Casserole. Spread the stuffing mixture evenly in a 9‑x 13‑inch baking dish. Nestle the seared chicken breasts on top, then pour any remaining pan juices over everything. Sprinkle the grated Parmesan across the surface for a golden finish.
  5. Bake to Perfection. Cover the dish with foil and bake for 20 minutes. Remove the foil and continue baking another 15–20 minutes, or until the chicken reaches an internal temperature of 165°F (74°C) and the top is lightly browned.
