I’m Trapped Between My Husband’s Return and a Stranger Who Looks Exactly Like Him at Midnight

I’m Trapped Between My Husband’s Return and a Stranger Who Looks Exactly Like Him at Midnight Save

Police Station: The Night the Phone Fell Silent

“Mrs. Pellier?” the officer barked, clipboard in hand.

I clutched my husband’s arm, his skin warm against my palm, his breath a steady rhythm.

“We need to bring you both in for questioning,” he continued, eyes flicking between us.

He drove us through the rain‑slicked streets, the police cruiser’s lights painting the wet pavement in amber.

Inside the precinct, the fluorescent hum was oppressive. Two detectives stared at us, suspicion etched into every line of their faces.

“We’ll keep you together,” one said, gesturing toward a battered metal table. “We need to verify everything.”

He placed a hand on my husband’s shoulder, then slipped a fingerprint card onto the surface.

“Your husband’s prints match the one we recovered from the crash scene,” the detective read, voice flat.

My husband’s eyes widened, a flicker of panic behind his calm veneer.

“That’s impossible,” he whispered, as if the words could rewrite the evidence.

“We’re just confirming what the lab says,” the officer replied, tapping the card.

The room felt colder, the hum louder, as if the walls themselves were listening.

My mind raced, trying to reconcile the man beside me with the dead body on the highway.

He squeezed my hand tighter, his jaw set.

“I’m here. I’m alive.”

Truth in the Grainy Frame

Detective Morales pulled up a monitor, the screen buzzing with static.

“We’ve got the security footage from the checkpoint,” he announced, fingers dancing over the keyboard.

My husband leaned forward, his forehead creasing as he stared at the grainy rectangle.

“Look,” he said, voice steady, “the way the scar on my right abdomen lines up—same as when you lifted my shirt.”

He recited the exact moment we first kissed in the kitchen, the nickname he whispered when he woke me at 2 a.m., the way I always put the left fork down first.

Each detail landed like a hammer on my nerves.

“You remember the song we played on our fifth anniversary?” he asked, eyes never leaving the screen.

“‘Moonlight Over the Bay’—the one with the violin solo that makes you cry.”

My breath caught; the memory flooded back, vivid and intimate.

“That’s me,” he declared, a hint of triumph in his tone.

Morales paused, fingers hovering over the play button.

“One more thing,” he said, “the timestamp on this clip matches the exact moment the crash occurred.”

The video flickered, showing a black pickup rolling onto the retaining wall, its headlights blinking.

In the frame, a figure stepped into the cab—my husband’s silhouette, unmistakable, hands gripping the steering wheel.
