I Became the Only One Who Could Hear My Children’s Silent Screams Behind the Closed Kennel Door

I Became the Only One Who Could Hear My Children’s Silent Screams Behind the Closed Kennel Door Save

Latch, Blood, and a Glint

“Mommy, please! I’ll be good!” the scream ripped through the night as the old wooden kennel clicked shut.

My shoes hit the porch, cold against the wood, and I lunged, heart hammering, toward the darkness.

“You wanted to act like an animal, so you’ll live like one,” Mara hissed, her eyes ice‑blue, watching me with a stare that felt like a blade.

I threw myself against the latch, feeling the metal bite into my palm, the click of the lock echoing in the still air.

Her fingers tightened around Lily’s wrist, then suddenly she slackened, pulling the trembling toddler back with a swift yank.

In the porch light I caught a flash—a strange, crescent scar on Mara’s wrist, pale as bone, catching the glow and shimmering like a warning.

Lily’s sobs faded into the night as I staggered back, breath ragged, trying to make sense of the scar, the latch, and the cold fury in Mara’s eyes.

Behind her, the kennel’s door remained shut, but the air vibrated with a low, unseen pressure.

The Secret Beneath the Kennel

Mara’s voice cut through the night, sharp and commanding: “Back to the opening, Lily.” She shoved the child toward the yawning gap.

I felt the floorboards creak beneath my weight as I stepped closer, the porch light spilling onto the dark wood.

My foot slipped on a loose board; it gave way, revealing a hidden compartment under the floor.

Inside lay a rusted metal key, its teeth corroded but still discernible, and a stack of faded photographs.

The photos showed the house decades ago, a different family—stern men, a woman with the same crescent scar—standing beside the very same kennel.

A chill crawled up my spine as I turned the images over, each one whispering a history I’d never known.

Just then a scream slashed the air—Lily’s terrified cry—as the kennel’s door swung open.

Flashing orange lights tore across the sky, illuminating Mara’s beast‑like mask, and a cloaked figure emerged, clutching newborn Noah.

My breath caught; the night exploded with terror as Lily’s scream pierced the darkness.

Confrontation in the Shadows

“Mara, what the hell is this?” I demanded, voice shaking as I shoved the rusted key into the dirt‑slick floorboards.

She turned, eyes cold, the scar on her wrist catching the porch light like a glint of metal.

“You think you can outrun what we promised?” she whispered, the words curling like smoke.

My breath hitched; the key clattered against the concrete, a tiny echo against the thunder of my racing heart.

“A pact?” I snarled, stepping closer, the weight of my briefcase suddenly feeling like a stone.

She lifted a shaking hand, fingers grazing the scar, then mouthed something incomprehensible.

“Noah… he’s the key,” Mara muttered, her voice a cracked hymn. “The curse won’t lift until the newborn’s blood seals the seal.”
