I Stood Over My Mother’s Kitchen, Watching My Wife Poison Her to Steal the Inheritance

I Stood Over My Mother’s Kitchen, Watching My Wife Poison Her to Steal the Inheritance Save

Confrontation in the Kitchen

“Swallow the soup, old woman, so you’re fast asleep when the notary arrives at six!”

My grip tightened around the forged Power of Attorney, the amber bottle humming in my palm like a silent accusation.

Brenda’s eyes flicked to the papers, a flash of panic slicing through her contralto.

“What the hell are you doing, Brenda?” I barked, voice cracking as the kitchen lights bounced off the copper pots.

She lunged toward the exit, her red curls a banner of motion.

“You’ll never—” I shouted, lunging after her, the citrus‑scented oranges spilling like bright confetti beneath our feet.

Rose clutched my arm, trembling, her frail fingers digging into my sleeve.

“Liam, please… don’t let her get away,” she whispered, her breath a ragged sigh against the clatter.

She swayed, a wilted sunflower in a storm, but her grip held.

I snatched the forged document from her trembling hand, the ink glinting wickedly in the harsh kitchen light.

“You think you can steal my mother’s life?” I spat, the bottle slipping into my other hand.

Brenda slipped past the island, her shoes squeaking on the terracotta tiles, the cutting board still glinting behind her.

“Run, you liar!” I shouted, lunging forward, feeling the weight of the evidence like a stone in my palm.

She vanished into the hallway, the door to the bedroom thumping shut behind her with a resonant bang.

The Hallway Hunt

Adrenaline surged as I chased her, Rose’s frail hand still clinging to my sleeve.

The hallway stretched, dimly lit by a single flickering bulb, shadows dancing on the faded wallpaper.

Brenda slammed the bedroom door, the wood reverberating through the house.

I shoved it open, the hinges protesting, a stale scent of old perfume flooding the space.

She stood there, a silhouette against the doorway, breathing heavily, eyes darting like a trapped animal.

“You won’t get away with this,” I growled, stepping over the threshold.

Behind a family portrait—my father’s stern gaze—something bulged.

My fingers found the seam, a faint click echoing in the quiet.

The lock was cracked, splintered wood giving way to a dark cavity.

Inside, a stack of falsified medical records lay like a forbidden ledger, each page detailing a fabricated decline.

Beside them, a passport, foreign stamps staining the cover, a name I didn’t recognize.

My heart hammered, the evidence swelling in my chest.

Brenda’s gasp cut through the silence, “What… what is that?”

She lunged forward, fingers clawing at the safe’s edge, the hallway walls closing in.

The air smelled of dust and betrayal as she realized the depth of the conspiracy.

Back to the Kitchen

I slipped back into the kitchen, the heat of the oven still clinging to the air.

“Stay seated, Mom,” I hissed, gripping Rose’s trembling wrist, feeling the frailty of her pulse.
