I Returned Home to Find My Wife Threatening My Mother While the Truth About My Father’s Death Burned in My Hands

I Returned Home to Find My Wife Threatening My Mother While the Truth About My Father’s Death Burned in My Hands Save

Homecoming

“Marcus, thank God you’re home! Your wife is attacking me and burning your father's memories!”

The shriek cracked through the marble foyer as a half‑burned diary smoldered on the floor.

I staggered through the great doors, trench coat plastered to my skin, clutching a bouquet of bright red tulips that slipped from my fingers like drops of blood.

Rain hammered the stone steps, each splash echoing against the oak paneling, and the brass sconces flickered, their light trembling like dying embers.

Elena stood at the marble console, her dark updo immaculate, emerald blouse a sharp contrast to the storm‑soaked marble.

She had my mother, Beatrice, pinned against the cold stone, silver curls trembling, the smoking urn cradled in Elena’s white‑knuckled hand.

“Elena, step away from my mother right this second, what is going on here?” My voice cracked, raw, the words rattling off the marble walls.

She didn’t answer; instead she tightened her grip on the urn, the metal warm from the fire that had once held my father's ashes.

My tulips fell, scattering across the parquet, a splash of crimson against the gray, petals curling as they met the cold floor.

The half‑burned diary lay open, smoke curling up like a dying breath.

Elena’s eyes flicked to the stack of papers on the polished floor—a stack that seemed to pulse with threat.

I lunged forward, water dripping from my coat, rain‑slicked hair plastered to my forehead.

“What are you doing to her, Elena?” I demanded, heart hammering, the scent of burnt paper mingling with the metallic tang of rain‑slicked stone.

She finally spoke, voice trembling, “She wasn’t protecting his memories, Marcus—I caught her burning the forensic toxicology report from the week your father died!”

The Burning Truth

Elena’s fingers brushed the charred edges of the diary, pulling a trembling page free.

“Look at this,” she said, thrusting the half‑charred forensic toxicology report toward me. “Lethal oleander alkaloids—your father didn’t die of a heart attack.”

The paper glowed with a crimson seal, the ink bleeding like fresh wound.

My throat closed. “You… you saw her doing this?”

Elena’s eyes never left the report, a fierce fire kindling within them. “I walked in as she tried to set it alight. She said… she said it was to protect something, but the diary—”

She snapped the diary in half, exposing a shaking hand‑written confession: “I added oleander to his tea. The insurance… the will… I am sorry.”

The words hit me like a cold blade; the mansion seemed to inhale, the rain outside pausing as if listening.

“Mother—” I whispered, voice breaking, the sound swallowed by the echo of dripping rain.

Beatrice’s face turned ash‑white, knees buckling as the weight of her crimes crashed over her.
