The Kiss in Terminal C

I stepped out of the coffee line, the scent of roasted beans still clinging to my coat. My eyes landed on Julian, his shoulders relaxed as if he owned the airport.

Julian brought his lips to hers without hesitation. The kiss was brief, efficient—no lingering, no apology.

My stomach dropped.

I slid behind a nearby pillar, the cold metal against my back, and listened.

“Everything is in place,” Julian whispered, his voice low enough that only we could hear.

“That fool is about to lose everything,” he added, a smile creeping across his face.

Lila’s eyes glittered. “She’ll never see it coming,” she replied, a faint chuckle escaping her.

The words hung in the stale air, colder than the Denver wind outside.

My mind raced—what could “everything” mean? Money? Property? A betrayal?

Julian’s hand tightened around the briefcase at his side, the leather worn smooth from countless meetings.

My heart hammered, but I forced myself to stay still, phone clenched in my palm.

Recording the Plot

I pressed the record button, my thumb trembling. The device captured every syllable, each breath.

“Once the transfer clears,” Julian said, his tone casual, “she’s finished. No accounts. No access.”

“I’ll file immediately,” Lila answered, her smile sharp as a knife.

He opened his briefcase, pulling out a stack of papers—legal forms, signatures, the final paperwork to transfer ownership of the house I inherited from my father.

My throat went dry as I read the headline: Deed Transfer – 1125 Willow Lane. The house that held my childhood, my memories, my security.

Julian's eyes flicked to the document. “And the house?” he asked.

“Already handled,” he replied, as if confirming a routine task.

In that moment, the realization struck like a cold wind: they were about to strip me of everything I’d ever known.

I swallowed, fighting the urge to confront them, the recorder still humming.

Just then, a muted buzz from Julian’s phone cut through the conversation.

“The courier is en route—make sure the escrow clears before the flight lands,” a text read.

Lila slipped a sealed envelope into Julian’s hand, her voice a hiss.

“Now or never,” she whispered urgently.
