I Was the Uninvited Guest Who Exposed My Son’s Secret Bride at His Engagement Celebration

I Was the Uninvited Guest Who Exposed My Son’s Secret Bride at His Engagement Celebration Save

Escape Through the Service Corridor

I lowered myself onto the wet grass, the cold water seeping into my shoes.

“I… I was only trying to find Mr. Adrian Vale,” I whispered, voice trembling on purpose.

Celeste’s eyes flashed with disdain as she lifted the hose.

“We don’t allow strangers on private property, especially during an engagement,” she cooed, a smile that didn’t reach her lips.

Behind her, Eleanor Whitmore sneered, “Please remove this woman before she ruins the photographs.”

Richard Vale’s cold tone added, “And check the bag before she leaves.”

I gripped my canvas bag tighter, feeling the phone inside pulse against my palm.

When the laughter faded, I slipped away, the garden’s bright lights dimming behind me.

A side gate, half‑hidden by climbing ivy, creaked as I pushed it open.

The service corridor smelled of oil and old linoleum, a stark contrast to the polished ballroom.

Footsteps echoed far ahead; I ducked behind a stack of cleaning carts, heart hammering.

Through the thin doorway, I heard Celeste’s voice, low and urgent.

“…the merger is set for next quarter, but we need the board’s approval before the ceremony ends,” she hissed.

Her companion, a man in a dark suit, replied, “The investors are nervous. They’ll only sign if they see the assets secured.”

“The safe under the east wing will hold the documents. Once it’s in Adrian’s name, the Whitmores will control the majority.”

A cold realization settled over me; the engagement was a front for a corporate takeover.

I slipped further into the shadows, listening as Celeste added, “No one suspects a bride to be, especially when she’s dripping champagne.”

The man chuckled, “She’ll be the perfect distraction.”

I felt my pulse slow, the weight of the secret pressing against my chest.

My phone’s screen glowed faintly, still recording.

With the hallway empty, I turned toward the garden’s far side, where a secluded gazebo waited.

Confrontation at the Gazebo

The gazebo stood under a pergola of blooming wisteria, its lanterns flickering softly.

I slipped inside, the door closing behind me with a soft click.

Celeste stood near a marble table, a sleek leather briefcase at her feet.

Next to her, a man in a rumpled blazer—his eyes restless—leaned over the case.

“You said the safe is hidden in the cellar,” Celeste said, voice edged with impatience.

He shrugged, “The ledger’s there. I need the exact location before we move the assets.”

Her fingers twitched on the briefcase strap; I could feel the tension crackling.

“You’ll get it tonight, or the Whitmores will lose everything,” the man growled, pulling a small pistol from his coat.

My breath caught; the gun’s metal glinted in the lantern light.

“Don’t be foolish,” Celeste warned, her eyes cold. “The safe is not where you think.”
