I Walked Out With My Baby and My Access, Ready to Expose the Vance Family’s Dark Secrets

I Walked Out With My Baby and My Access, Ready to Expose the Vance Family’s Dark Secrets Save

Driving Toward Maya

“I’m leaving with the baby and my access,” I whispered to the empty kitchen, the baby’s soft sighs the only acknowledgment.

Julian’s smile lingered in the doorway as I slipped the suitcase into the back seat, my hands trembling around the infant’s blanket.

The city was still cloaked in predawn gray when I turned onto the interstate, the windshield fogged by my breath and the baby’s warmth.

Every red light felt like a pause for a secret gasp; I could hear my own heart pounding against the rhythm of the engine.

“Maya, answer the door,” I muttered, glancing at the rear‑view mirror where the baby’s eyes stared back, wide and unblinking.

When I pulled up to the brick building, Maya’s legal pad glowed on the table, a stack of case files beside it, her laptop humming.

She opened the door before I could knock, a smile cracked by worry.

“Eleanor, I thought you’d be…,” she began, then shut the words short when she saw the infant’s swaddled bundle.

“I need a safe place, an alibi,” I said, voice low, the baby’s tiny hand gripping my sleeve.

She led me inside, the hallway smelling of coffee and printer ink, and closed the door behind us.

“You can stay tonight,” Maya whispered, her eyes flicking to the laptop screen already lit with code. “I’ll keep you hidden. I’ll keep the trail covered.”

We settled in the tiny living room, the baby cooing softly, while I stared at the ceiling, already formulating the next move.

Breaking Into Project Helix

“Your old credentials still work,” Maya said, tapping the keyboard with a practiced rhythm.

I watched the login screen flash my name, a ghost from the past, and felt the surge of old power humming through the circuit.

The system opened to a maze of folders, each named in sterile corporate jargon, until a thin line of text caught my eye.

“Project Helix” stared back, its font a muted gray, blinking like a forbidden door.

My fingers hesitated, then dragged the first file into a new folder on Maya’s external drive.

A warning popped up: Unauthorized access – your activity is being logged.

Maya’s eyes widened, her breath quickening.

“Eleanor, we’ve got eyes on this,” she whispered, glancing at the security camera icon pulsing in the corner.

I forced a grin, the baby’s soft whimper in the background reminding me why this had to be done.

“Copying now,” I said, the progress bar inching forward, each tick a heartbeat louder than the last.

Just as the file completed, the apartment lights flickered, then died, plunging us into darkness.

In the sudden black, the laptop’s screen glowed weakly, casting shadows.

A silhouette drifted toward the desk, the faint outline of a figure looming over Maya’s computer, as if someone had been watching every keystroke.

Julian Confronts the Legacy

Julian sat across from his mother in the vaulted study, the city lights spilling through the tall windows like liquid silver.

“Mom, why did you never tell me?” he asked, voice edged with a mix of anger and fatigue.

Evelyn inhaled, the scent of old leather and faint tobacco hanging in the air. “Because you were too busy building a façade, Julian.”

She slid a thin dossier across the mahogany desk. The cover read, Project Helix – Offshore Holdings.
