I Walked Away From My Son’s Threat, Then Reclaimed the Firm He Tried to Steal From Me

I Walked Away From My Son’s Threat, Then Reclaimed the Firm He Tried to Steal From Me Save

Reviewing the Clause

Carla slipped the folder onto my desk, the heft of the old partnership papers rustling like dry leaves.

“Found it behind the ledger, Margaret,” she whispered, eyes flicking to the window as the late‑afternoon light painted the blinds.

I opened the first page, the familiar script of Thomas’s hand unmistakable.

“Section 7‑B,” I said, scanning. “Removal of a partner for cause.”

Carla leaned closer, her breath warm on the paper.

“It says here a partner whose conduct endangers the firm may be expelled by a majority vote, and the remaining shares are redistributed according to the original ownership chart.”

My fingers traced the clause, the words crisp, deliberate.

“If a partner is removed, the 25 % I gave you reverts to the original holder,” I murmured, heart quickening.

Carla’s gaze hardened.

“You can call an emergency meeting, invoke the clause, and—”

“—reclaim the controlling share,” I finished, the breath catching in my throat.

A surge of old fire rose; Thomas’s discipline resurfaced in my veins.

“We need to act now,” I said, voice steady, “before he frames this as my surrender.”

She nodded, already pulling her phone, the screen lighting her determined face.

Confrontation in the Corner Office

Andrew’s office was a sleek cage of glass and steel, the city humming beneath us.

“Margaret, to what do I owe the pleasure?” he asked, not looking up from the tablet in his hands.

“Explain the contractors you hired without board approval,” I demanded, the folder thudding on his desk.

He slid the screen toward me, a spreadsheet of names and dollar signs flickering.

“These are consultants Rebecca recommended. They’re essential for the new branding push.”

“Essential? They’re on the books, yet no invoices, no contracts. And the $50,000 transfer that vanished from the operating account?”

Andrew’s smile cracked, a flash of impatience.

“You think I’m outdated, Mom? The firm needs fresh ideas, not your old‑school restraint.”

“Your fresh ideas are stealing from us, Andrew.”

He stood, the chair screeching, his voice rising.

“You’re clinging to a past that died with Thomas. I’m the future. You’re just an obstacle.”

Carla’s voice rang in my head—“the clause.”

“You’ve breached the partnership agreement,” I said, holding the clause page up.

He laughed, a cold echo.

“That clause is a relic, Margaret. It means nothing now.”

“Then you’ll watch me enforce it.”

He pressed a button, the intercom crackling.
