I Survived a Car Crash Only to Face My Husband’s Abuse While Broken and Helpless in the Hospital

I Survived a Car Crash Only to Face My Husband’s Abuse While Broken and Helpless in the Hospital Save

Caleb’s Fury and the Nurse’s Warning

The antiseptic smell hit me harder than the pain in my broken ribs. “Enough of this drama, Rebecca,” Caleb snarled from the foot of the bed, his cologne cutting through the sterile air.

His hand clamped around my wrist, the plaster cast biting into my skin. “Get up. We’re going home.”

I tried to whisper, “Caleb, I can’t.” The medication fogged my thoughts, but not enough to miss his threat.

“Don’t start with me.” He slammed his fist into my stomach, the air whooshing out of me like a broken valve. The heart monitor’s steady beep was the only thing that didn’t wobble.

Between his tirades, the nurse slipped into the room, her shoes squeaking on the linoleum. She glanced at the chart, then at my pained eyes.

“Ms. Walker,” she said gently, “your insurance has a clause. If a family member doesn’t sign the release form, they’ll deny any further coverage.”

My brain scrambled for a way out while the monitor kept its relentless rhythm. “What release?” I croaked.

She placed a thin, sterile paper on the bedside table. “A consent for continued treatment. Without it, you’re on your own.”

Caleb’s jaw tightened, his stare flickering between me and the nurse. “You’re trying to cheat the system, are you?” he hissed.

“Just… read it,” the nurse whispered, eyes darting to the door as if expecting someone else to appear.

I stared at the form, the words swimming. My broken legs, my fractured ribs, my swollen wrist—all laid out like a billboard of my helplessness.

“Sign it, Rebecca,” Caleb demanded, his tone a low threat. “Or we’ll be here forever looking at that beep.”

The nurse’s voice softened. “You have the right to ask for a second opinion, but the hospital won’t cover any more procedures without the signature.”

My mind raced: the bills, the offshore account, the empty promises. I felt the weight of eleven years of keeping the peace crash down like the plaster around my thighs.

“I need time,” I whispered, the words trembling.

He laughed, a short, cruel sound. “Time is a luxury you don’t have.”

Just then the door swung open, a figure stepping through the threshold, bringing a sudden shift in the room’s tension.

Dr. Elena Marquez and the Unsettling Proposition

“Rebecca Walker?” The voice was calm, precise, cutting through the static of my pain.

Dr. Elena Marquez stood in the doorway, her white coat immaculate, eyes hidden behind sleek glasses. She placed a small folder on the table, the cover marked “Experimental Protocol – Confidential.”

“I’m Dr. Marquez, chief of regenerative medicine. I’ve reviewed your case.” She brushed a strand of hair from her face, a faint smile playing at the corners of her mouth.

“There’s an experimental treatment that could accelerate the healing of your fractures,” she began, voice steady. “It uses a proprietary stem‑cell matrix designed to integrate with your own tissue.”

My heart thudded louder than the monitor’s beep. “What… what does it require?” I asked, my voice hoarse.

She opened the folder, revealing a single page of dense medical jargon. “The matrix needs a donor’s genetic material to activate. It’s not a typical blood type match; it requires a close genetic relative.”

“A sibling?” I whispered, the word feeling foreign in my mind.

Dr. Marquez’s eyes flicked to the corner of the room where Caleb lingered, his fists still clenched. “Our records indicate a potential sibling you were never told about—a hidden family connection that could provide the necessary DNA.”

I stared at the paper, the words blurring as the pain surged. “Why would they hide that?”

She leaned in, lowering her voice. “Sometimes families protect secrets for… reasons. In your case, there may be a legal implication if you proceed without proper consent.”

Before I could process, Caleb lunged forward, snatching the folder from Dr. Marquez’s hands. “You think you can pull a stunt and take my wife’s money?” he roared, brandishing a cold metal gun.
