I Returned Home to Find My Sister Trapped With a Baby Inside a Haunted Doghouse

I Returned Home to Find My Sister Trapped With a Baby Inside a Haunted Doghouse

Back in the Foyer

My duffel hit the marble with a hollow clang, scattering a handful of travel‑worn clothes across the polished floor.

The cold hand that had brushed my wrist lingered in my mind, a phantom chill that seemed to pulse with the house itself.

I staggered forward, each breath a ragged gasp, eyes darting to the shadowed corners where darkness felt too thick to be empty.

From somewhere down the hallway, my father's voice—warped, guttural—snaked through the air, “You think you can free them, Adrian?”

The words curled around the marble arches like smoke, and I swallowed hard, trying to locate their source.

My gaze snagged on the portrait of Mother hanging above the grand staircase.

She was always smiling, her eyes soft, the paint catching the lamplight in a warm glow.

Now the canvas flickered, the smile curling into something sharp, teeth barely visible, a sinister grin that seemed to widen with each flicker.

I reached out, fingertips trembling, as the portrait's eyes followed me, unblinking, as if the house itself watched.

Behind the smile, a faint phosphorescent smear drifted like ink, spelling a name I did not recognize.

My heart hammered against my ribs; the air grew heavy, scented with pine and an undercurrent of something metallic—blood? Iron?

Every step I took echoed louder, as if the walls were amplifying my dread, and the hallway stretched farther than it should.

“Adrian…,” the distorted voice hissed again, now nearer, reverberating off the oak paneling.

Descent into the Library

I bolted toward the library, slamming the heavy oak doors open with a crash that sent a shiver through the dust‑laden air.

The room was a cavern of towering shelves, each laden with leather‑bound tomes that seemed to sigh under centuries of neglect.

A single candle sputtered on a mahogany desk, its flame trembling as if fearing the darkness that pressed against the glass windows.

My hands fumbled along the rows until a panel on the back wall gave way with a soft click, revealing a hidden cavity.

I lifted the book, feeling the weight of generations settle onto my shoulders.

The first entry read: “The Blackwell pact—bound to a shadow that feeds on our grief; each heir must seal the seal, lest the curse awaken.”

Further down, a detailed illustration showed a sigil of interlocking shadows surrounding a cradle, the very image of my sister’s terror.

Another entry whispered of a ritual: “Three tears of pure sorrow, a blade of night, and the light of the newborn shall rend the seal.”

My pulse quickened; the words aligned with the nightmare in the doghouse.
