I Recorded My Husband’s Murder Plot on the Night Before My Birth, and I Won’t Let Him Win

I Recorded My Husband’s Murder Plot on the Night Before My Birth, and I Won’t Let Him Win Save

Morning of the Birth

The fluorescent lights buzzed as I blinked awake, the sound of nurses’ shoes echoing down the hallway.

My stomach ached with the first wave, a reminder that the baby was finally coming.

“Miranda?” a nurse called, her voice bright but hurried, “Time for the prep.”

I tried to smile, but the memory of last night’s recording still clenched my throat.

My phone vibrated on the bedside table.

“Hey, sis,” Bennett’s voice crackled, steady, “I’ve got the file. I’m on the express route, should be there in ten.”

He paused, a faint click of a hallway door swinging behind him.

“You’re not alone,” he added, a hint of steel in his tone. “I’ve already flagged it with the precinct.”

I felt a surge of something fierce, a blend of fear and resolve.

“Good,” I whispered, clutching the blanket tighter, “don’t let them silence it.”

He answered with a soft chuckle, “They won’t. I’ll be right outside the ER door, waiting.”

The nurse entered, a tray of monitors in hand, her eyes flicking to the monitor showing my vitals.

“Ready?” she asked, hands already gloved.

I nodded, the weight of the recording heavy in my pocket, knowing it was the only proof I had left.

Whispers in the Delivery Suite

Just as the team settled, Dr. Preston Wexler slipped in, his coat hanging open, his brow furrowed.

He caught my eye and leaned close enough that only the attending nurse could hear.

“Someone filed a police report,” he murmured, eyes darting to the hallway.

The nurse’s hand trembled as she adjusted the IV line, her breath shallow.

“Who?” she asked, voice barely above a whisper.

“I don’t know,” Wexler replied, his lips tightening, “but they’re already on the move.”

A sudden buzz cut through the low hum of machines.

The nurse glanced at her phone, the screen lighting her startled face.

“It’s coming from an unknown number,” she said, frowning.

She swiped to answer, the speaker crackling with static.

“We can’t let this go,” a cold, detached voice said, echoing down the sterile corridor.

Both Dr. Wexler and I froze, the weight of that sentence settling like a stone in the air.

Section 3: The Hidden Recorder

The contractions came like tidal waves, each one pulling my breath deeper into the floorboards.
