I Ran Into My Lost Son on a Rain‑Soaked Street and the Night My Heart Broke Again

I Ran Into My Lost Son on a Rain‑Soaked Street and the Night My Heart Broke Again

He Falls into My Path

“Get out of my way!” I shouted, lunging through the storm as the boy tumbled onto the rain‑slick pavement.

His paper bag burst, stale bread scattering like ghostly crumbs. Two security guards surged forward, their boots splashing.

“My son had one exactly like this,” I whispered, feeling the cold rain soak through my designer coat.

I ripped the torn bag from the guards’ grip, the soggy paper clinging to my fingers.

Under the streetlight, a thin silver bracelet glinted on his wrist.

“Baby Boy Sinclair,” I read aloud, the name striking like a thunderclap.

The rain intensified, a relentless drum that seemed to echo the pounding in my chest.

A surge of dread rose, cold as the water seeping into my shoes.

“Oliver?” I asked, the word trembling on my lips.

He stared at me, eyes wide, the crescent mark barely visible beneath his shoulder.

“I’m… I’m Alex,” I said, voice cracking, “Where… where are you?”

He clutched the bag, trembling, the bread damp and moldy.

“Grandma Rose raised me. She’s sick,” he whispered.

The guards stepped back, their faces hidden beneath hoods, as the storm roared louder.

My heart hammered, each beat louder than the sirens in the distance.

Cradling a Ghost

I slipped my arms under his small frame, pulling him close into the hollow of my coat.

The rain splashed against the fabric, cold water seeping through the lining.

“Stay still,” I murmured, feeling his shivering body against me.

The guards barked, “Step back! You can’t take him!”

I stared at the bracelet, the metal cold against my palm.

A distant siren wailed, its mournful note cutting through the downpour.

From a dim doorway across the street, a shadowy figure watched, silhouette framed by flickering neon.

Its eyes glinted, fixed on me and the boy.

“Who are you?” I demanded, voice raw, my fingers tightening around the bracelet.

The figure didn’t answer; it simply lingered, as if weighing a decision.

Suddenly, a car screeched past, tires shrieking on wet asphalt.

The vehicle slammed into the street, smashing a nearby parked car’s side mirror.

Shards of glass exploded onto the pavement, glittering like broken stars.

The rain caught the fragments, each piece reflecting my terrified face, the boy’s, and a distant, unseen watcher.

When the chaos settled, the doorway was empty; the figure had vanished.
