I Never Expected My Long‑Lost Ex to Reappear at an Airport with My Own Twin Sons, Shattering Six Years of Secrets

I Never Expected My Long‑Lost Ex to Reappear at an Airport with My Own Twin Sons, Shattering Six Years of Secrets Save

Adrian Confronts Claire at the Gate

My heart raced as I approached Claire. The boys stirred but didn’t wake. I knelt beside her, my voice low but urgent. “Claire, it’s me, Adrian. What are you doing here?”

She opened her eyes, surprised and then wary. “Adrian?” she whispered, sitting up slowly.

I gestured to the boys. “Who are they?”

“They’re your sons,” she said, her voice breaking.

“What?” I almost choked on the word. “How is that possible?”

“Adrian, there’s so much you don’t know. I had to leave, to protect them.”

I reached out, touching the cheek of one of the boys. “Why didn’t you tell me?”

She looked away, tears forming in her eyes. “I tried, but your mother—”

“What about my mother?”

“She made it impossible. I had to disappear. I’ve been living under a false name, working menial jobs just to keep them safe.”

I felt a surge of anger. “Safe from what?”

“From everything. From people who would use them to hurt you.”

The boys began to stir, one rubbing his eyes, the other gripping the suitcase handle tighter. “Daddy?” the first one asked, his voice small but hopeful.

My throat tightened. “Yes, it’s me,” I whispered, my voice thick with emotion.

“We’re hungry,” the other boy said, his eyes wide with curiosity.

“We can get something to eat,” I offered, trying to process the weight of what she had just told me.

“Not here,” Claire said, her voice urgent. “We need to go somewhere safe.”

“What’s going on, Claire? Tell me everything.”

She hesitated, then nodded. “There’s a lot to explain, Adrian. But first, we need to leave this place.”

I helped her to her feet, the boys clinging to her. We moved away from the gate, but my mind was still reeling. How could this be happening?

Claire Reveals the Truth

We found a quiet corner, away from the bustling crowds. Claire took a deep breath and began to speak. “Adrian, I discovered something terrible six years ago. Your mother, Margaret, covered up a criminal act that could have destroyed the Bennett empire.”

“What kind of criminal act?” I asked, my voice steady but my mind racing.

“She forged documents to secure a lucrative land deal. It was illegal, and it endangered everything your family has built.”

I felt a chill run down my spine. “Why didn’t you tell me?”

“I tried, but she threatened me. She said if I spoke out, she would ruin me and take the boys away. I had to protect them.”

“But why didn’t you come to me?”

“Because I didn’t know who to trust. I had to disappear, to keep them safe. I’ve been living in fear ever since.”

The boys played quietly beside us, oblivious to the gravity of the conversation. I looked at them, my heart aching. “My sons,” I whispered.

Claire took my hand. “Adrian, you need to understand. Your mother has been manipulating everything, even your business deals, to keep the truth buried.”
