I Left My Father's House for Love, but Tonight I Am Reclaiming My Life and My Name
The Unveiling
The tension was palpable as we stepped back inside. The ballroom was abuzz with gossip, swirling like the crystal chandeliers above. I felt the weight of their expectations pressing down on me.
Spencer was no longer the confident man I had known; he looked like a cornered animal. “What the hell are you doing, Phoebe?” he growled, striding toward us.
I glanced at my father, who stood resolute at my side. “It’s time you faced the truth,” I said, my voice steady despite the chaos inside me.
Spencer’s eyes flickered between us, realizing he had lost control. “You think you can just waltz back into my life? After everything?”
“You never made me part of your life, Spencer. You kept me in a cage, and I’m breaking free.”
“But the deal you signed—”
“Was signed under duress. You know it, and I know it. I deserve to be free.”
“I deserve to be free.”
His mouth tightened, and for a split second, I saw fear flash across his face. But he quickly masked it with anger. “You’ll regret this, Phoebe. You’ll regret turning your back on me.”
“I’m not turning my back. I’m turning towards myself.”
My father stepped forward, his presence like a shield. “This ends here, Spencer. You’ve lost her.”
“You think this is over?” Spencer hissed. “This is just the beginning.”
He turned to the crowd, a calculated smile slipping into place. “Ladies and gentlemen, allow me to introduce you to the real Phoebe Harrell.”
I felt the air shift. Was this a trap? My heart hammered. There was a moment of silence, then a murmur swept through the room. The audience waited, but I had no idea what he had planned. Panic clawed at my chest.
“Please, no.” I tried to reach for my father, but Spencer held me tightly. “This isn’t how it ends!”
