I Hired a Beautiful Actress to Join Me at My Ex-Wife’s Wedding, but Her Secret Changed Everything I Thought I Knew

I Hired a Beautiful Actress to Join Me at My Ex-Wife’s Wedding, but Her Secret Changed Everything I Thought I Knew Save

Walking into the Fire

The moment I stepped into the wedding venue with Isabel on my arm, the air thickened with curiosity. Heads turned, and whispers danced across the room, but I held my chin high. I could feel Camille’s gaze piercing through the gathering crowd, her shock evident at first glance.

As we walked closer, the surprise on her face twisted into something much colder. “Julian,” she said, her voice as crisp as the autumn air outside. “I didn’t expect to see you here, and with... her.”

Isabel smiled politely, her hand gripping my arm, a subtle show of solidarity. “I’m his wife for the day,” she chirped, her tone bright and confident. I could feel my insides squirming with a mix of pride and anger. “You’ve got a lovely venue, Camille.”

Camille's smile faltered for a second, her perfect image cracking just enough for me to see the fury hiding beneath. “Thanks. It’s certainly different from our wedding.” Her eyes flicked between Isabel and me, calculating. “You always did love the dramatic flair.”

“Guess I just wanted to make an impression.” The resonance of my own words shocked me. Did I really care if I made an impression on Camille? Or was it the lingering sting of her betrayal that fueled my bravado?

With her perfectly styled hair and designer dress, Camille was the epitome of success. I almost despised how beautiful she still was. “You should enjoy yourself, Julian,” she continued, her lips curling into that familiar smirk. “After all, you’ve got quite the arm candy.”

Before I could respond, I felt a surge of satisfaction at seeing her struggle to recompose. I turned my back on her, leading Isabel toward the bar, where laughter and chatter provided a buffer from the tension I had just left behind.

Secrets in Conversation

As we moved deeper into the reception, I tried to savor the moment, but the whispers around me grabbed my attention. “Did you hear? Camille’s marrying a billionaire,” a woman laughed. “She always knew how to land on her feet.”

“They say he’s quite the catch, too. Successful and charming,” another chimed in. My chest tightened as I realized the depth of Camille’s transformation. While I struggled alone, she rebuilt her life into something enviable.

“I always thought she was too good for you,” Isabel said softly, her eyes scanning the crowd. “But look at you now.”

“It’s just for show,” I replied, trying to contain my swirling emotions. Just as I started to feel a sense of triumph, my phone buzzed in my pocket. I pulled it out. It was a message from Isabel, her expression shifting suddenly, serious. “I need to tell you something,” she whispered, leaning closer.

“What is it?” I asked, my heart racing. Isabel’s fingers hovered over her screen, hesitation flickering across her face.

“I know something about Camille that changes everything,” she said, her voice barely above a whisper.

The chill that swept through me felt like ice water. “What do you mean?” I pressed, my pulse quickening at the thought of Camille’s hidden truths spilling out.

“Let’s talk later,” Isabel replied, her eyes darting to the entrance. “It’s not safe here.”

Before I could challenge her further, a text alert blinked on her phone and her face drained of color. “Oh no,” she gasped. A tremor of panic rippled through her, and the weight of her words loomed large between us.

Julian's heart raced as Isabel leaned in closer, her breath warm against his ear. "There’s something you need to know about Camille." The words sent a chill through him. He looked around, the crowd a blur of elegant suits and sparkling dresses, laughter ringing hollow in his ears. What could she possibly mean?

"What is it?" he asked, gripping his drink tightly. "What do you know?"

Isabel's gaze flicked towards Camille, who stood across the room, her eyes locked onto Julian. “Not here,” she said urgently. “We should talk somewhere private.”

“I can’t just—”

“It’s important, Julian. Trust me.” Her tone was intense, urgent. All the air seemed to leave the space between them. He could see Camille’s smile as she greeted guests; it was a smile that wore thin over everything she had left behind.

He felt a knot form in his stomach. Was this about Camille’s life? Her “successful image”? Or something darker? “Can’t you just tell me?” he pressed, the impatience creeping into his voice.

Isabel shook her head, her expression unreadable. “You’ll understand when we’re alone.”

Julian hated the way his heart quickened. He stole another glance at Camille, who now appeared to be watching him with a mixture of annoyance and curiosity. What was her game? He couldn’t shake the feeling that he was dancing on the edge of a cliff, and Isabel held the other end of the rope.

Section 4

After what felt like an eternity, Julian finally found a moment alone with Isabel in a quiet corner of the reception hall, the distant music a muffled backdrop. “Okay, what is it?” He was barely able to contain his urgency.

“Julian,” Isabel began, her expression serious. “I did some digging. Camille’s fiancé isn’t just some wealthy businessman. He’s someone much more significant to your life.”

“What do you mean?” Julian’s brow furrowed, a sense of dread creeping in. “What are you talking about?”

Isabel took a breath, her eyes darting around as if the walls were listening. “He’s Eli’s biological father. I found paperwork that traces back to…”

“What?!” Julian’s voice was barely a whisper, disbelief flooding his mind. “That can’t be true.”

“It is. It’s all part of Camille’s plan, Julian. She’s been orchestrating this for years.”

His world tilted on its axis. “You have to be wrong. Why would she—”

Just then, Camille appeared at the edge of the hallway, her face pale but a smirk playing at the corners of her mouth. “What’s this? A little secret meeting?”

The tension in the air thickened like a storm cloud. “You were eavesdropping?” Julian’s voice trembled with a mix of anger and panic.

“Of course I was,” Camille retorted, stepping closer. “You think I’d let you plot against me without knowing?”

Julian felt exposed, the weight of Isabel’s words crashing down on him like an avalanche. Camille had always had control over the narrative, and this was no different. Just as he opened his mouth to retort, a sense of dread washed over him. “Where’s Eli?”

Camille’s smirk fell, but only for a moment. “Why would you care?”

His heart dropped. “No… Where is he?”

Just then, Camille’s fiancé strode into view, a sinister smile on his face, and Julian knew right then—time was slipping through his fingers.

Confrontation at the Reception

“You really think you can just show up here with your little actress and play the doting husband?” Camille sneered, her voice dripping with disdain.

Julian felt the heat rise in his face, a mix of anger and the thrill of defiance. “You don’t get to judge me, Camille. Not after what you did,” he shot back, his voice steady despite the storm roiling within.

Her laughter cut through the clinking of glasses and chatter around them. “Oh please, Julian. I’ve always had the upper hand. Look at me. Look at my life now. Eli deserves better than someone like you.”

His fists clenched at his sides, the words stinging like a whip. “What’s that supposed to mean? You think just because you’re marrying rich, you’re a better mother?”

“Eli is better off without you. You’re broke, and you always will be.”

Her gaze was cold, and for a moment, Julian struggled with the urge to scream. “You know what? Maybe I’ll tell everyone what really happened. Maybe the truth will finally catch up to you.”

Camille's smirk widened, a predator playing with her prey. “Go ahead. It won’t change anything.”

But as the words hung in the air, a chilling realization crept into Julian’s mind. He had been too distracted by the argument, too lost in the moment. “Where’s Eli?” he blurted, anxiety gnawing at him like a pit bull.

The sudden panic twisted his stomach. He hadn’t seen him since they entered the venue. “Isabel!” he shouted, turning on his heels. But her silhouette was lost in the sea of guests, and dread pooled at the base of his spine.

Desperate Search

Julian rushed toward the doors leading to the garden, pushing past stunned guests. “Eli!” he called out, his heart pounding like a drum in a silent room.

His mind raced, spiraling with thoughts of what could be happening. What if Camille had taken him away? What if his son was scared and alone?

Then, in the chaos, a whisper of a memory crashed back into focus: Isabel’s unsettling text. Camille’s fiancé. “No, it can’t be,” he gasped as the pieces fell into place. “Eli’s biological father…”

“This was all part of her plan,” he murmured, horror washing over him.

Every detail clicked into place like a well-oiled machine. The laughter, the smiles that surrounded him now felt like a façade. He was being made a fool. She had orchestrated this entire scenario to erase him from Eli’s life.

“I have to find him,” Julian muttered under his breath, already bolting towards the nearest exit. “I can’t let them take him away.”

The thought of losing Eli sent a jolt of urgency through him. He could already envision the smug looks on Camille’s face and her fiancé’s confidence. No. Not today.

“I will find you, Eli!” he shouted, desperation fueling his speed as he ran into the night outside, the wedding blurring into a memory behind him.
