Confrontation

For the first time in Audrey’s life, Ethan Vance looked afraid.

He took a step toward the door, but two detectives entered before he could reach it. Behind them stood Sophia, steely and resolute.

“Ethan Vance,” the lead detective said, “we have warrants for your arrest, your devices, and financial records connected to Vance Development.”

Victoria began crying, arms flailing. “This is a family matter!”

Sophia’s expression remained cold, unwavering. “Assault, coercion, identity theft, witness intimidation, and financial fraud are criminal matters.”

In that moment, the room shifted. The air turned electric as Ethan lunged for the laptop. I stepped between them as detectives seized his arms before he could touch me.

“Audrey,” he gasped. “Tell them it was misunderstood.”

She stood in the center, tear-streaked yet taller than she had looked at the altar, transformed and defiant.

“You told me nobody would believe me,” she said, “But you were wrong.”

“Please,” he whispered. “Forgive me. I raised you.”

Audrey stepped back—my warrior—her strength radiating through the room. “You cannot return the years I spent hating my own reflection.”

As the detectives led him outside, our guests watched silently, disbelief etched on their faces. Ethan—the man who had entered the reception like a king—left with his wrists cuffed behind him.
