Beneath the Surface

Days became weeks, and Justin’s denial transformed into a frantic need for proof. He demanded a DNA test while Rachel, cornered and angry, dug her heels in.

“Doctors make mistakes all the time,” she snapped.

When he threatened to withdraw financial support for the penthouse, Rachel finally agreed to testing.

The results arrived four days later. The truth flashed across the page, solid and unyielding. Justin was not the biological father.

Rachel was quick to dismiss it, but there was no room for argument. The actual father had been revealed as a stranger from a clinic, a mere footnote in her devious plan.

The truth had begun to weave itself into the narrative of our lives, each detail linking her deceit to a larger betrayal. I was biding my time, letting the pieces fall into place.

Justin’s spiral took on an intensity that was terrifying to witness. His cries of innocence echoed in my mind, but they only solidified my resolve.

As I waited for the revelation to unfold, my company felt the backlash of his actions. Fraudulent payments, fake invoices — the ripple effects were staggering.

In the board meeting, I delivered the forensic report with unwavering composure. Justin was a ghost of his former self, disbelief etched across his features as he grasped the reality of his situation.

“You can’t fire me,” he shouted, his voice cracking.

Two weeks later, the final confrontation arrived. A meticulously arranged meeting in the glass conference room felt like a stage set for the inevitable.

Justin walked in with a lawyer he could barely afford. His exhaustion was palpable — a stark contrast to the man who had left my home so arrogantly.

Rachel, too, made her entrance — dark glasses shielding her eyes, her hands empty of the children she had flaunted so proudly.

My attorney, the board chairman, and a detective were seated beside me, their presence a palpable weight pressing on Justin and Rachel.

“This is a family misunderstanding,” he asserted, desperation creeping into his voice.

I laid the forged approvals on the table, the damning evidence glistening like shards of broken trust.

“Stealing from a corporation is not a family misunderstanding,” I replied, my tone steady.

Rachel, sensing the shift, turned toward Justin, anger bubbling beneath her surface. “You said the company was yours.”

The truth was already unraveling. The walls were closing in.

“He said many things. So did you,” I shot back, my resolve unyielding.

A weary silence fell over the room as I continued, detailing the lengths to which Justin had gone to orchestrate this charade.

“But this ends today,” I asserted firmly.

The story continues…
