She Secretly Transferred Her Inheritance to Protect It from Family Greed

She Secretly Transferred Her Inheritance to Protect It from Family Greed

“This house is no longer yours, Valeria. You have until Friday to get out.”

Her mother said it with unbearable calm, as if she were merely announcing that dinner had gone cold and not throwing her own daughter out of the place where she had lived for the past two years. Valeria did not respond immediately. She left the spoon inside her coffee cup, lifted her gaze toward the dining table, and looked at each of the faces in front of her one by one.

Her father, Ramiro, pretended to check messages on his phone so he would not have to look at her. Her younger sister, Fernanda, was leaning against the wall with a smile so satisfied it was nauseating. And her mother, Patricia, held that polished expression of an elegant woman from San Pedro Garza García, as if cruelty too could be dressed in good taste.

Valeria breathed slowly.

“We’ll see about that.”

Nothing more. No shouting. No tears. None of the spectacle they were expecting.

Since childhood, Valeria had learned that in that family, silence was the only way to survive. Her older brother, Emiliano, had always been “the promise”: the son for whom doors had to be opened, contacts paid for, projects pushed forward. Fernanda was “the favorite”: the one who cried and got whatever she wanted. Valeria, on the other hand, was the one who had to understand, give in, work, grow up too soon, and not get in the way.

While her siblings studied without worrying about anything, she had been working since she was 16. First in a café, then tutoring, later covering her expenses with temporary jobs while finishing college through loans and scholarships. The most painful part was not the lack of help. It was that they always made her feel guilty for needing it.

Everything changed 10 days earlier, when she received a call from an attorney named Salcedo. Valeria thought it was a minor matter related to the inheritance from her grandfather Ernesto, who had died years earlier. But in that elegant office in downtown Monterrey, the truth hit her like a wall.

Chapter 2: The Hidden Trust

Her grandfather had not only left properties and accounts. He had created 3 identical trusts for his 3 grandchildren. One for Emiliano, one for Fernanda, and one for her. Valeria’s had been growing for years and, with returns and investments, was now worth more than a million dollars.

The money was supposed to have been disclosed when she turned 25, but her parents had found a way to suppress the information. They had been planning to take it all for themselves, using their influence and connections to keep the trust hidden.

Valeria felt a mix of shock and anger. She had always known her family was selfish, but this was beyond anything she could have imagined. She decided to act quickly. That night, she contacted her grandfather’s attorney and made arrangements to transfer the trust to a secure account under her name.

The next day, she received a message from her parents, asking to meet her at the house. They seemed unusually calm, almost too calm. Valeria knew something was off.

“Valeria, we need to talk,” her father said, his voice steady but cold.

“I’m all ears,” she replied, her heart pounding.

“We’ve decided to give you a chance. If you agree to sign over the house to us, we’ll let you stay here. Otherwise, you’ll be out on the street by Friday.”
