Pregnant Woman Forced to Sleep in Car by Husband, Until His Mom Intervenes

Pregnant Woman Forced to Sleep in Car by Husband, Until His Mom Intervenes

My thirty-four weeks pregnant. My back constantly aches. My ribs feel bruised from tiny feet kicking them all night. I wake up every hour needing the bathroom. I turn from one side to the other. Adjust pillows. Sit up. Lie back down. Repeat.

My husband, Corbin, and I live in a tiny one-bedroom apartment. One night, around three in the morning, he suddenly sat upright. “I can’t do this anymore.”

“I’m sorry. I can’t help it,” I whispered, exhaustion lacing my voice.

He looked straight at me. “Then you need to sleep somewhere else.” He grabbed my car keys off the counter and tossed them onto the bed. “You’ve got reclining seats.”

I just stared at him. “Corbin… I’m eight months pregnant.”

“So? I pay the rent,” he said, his voice devoid of empathy. “I need sleep so I can work. You’re on maternity leave. It won’t kill you to sleep in the car for a few weeks.”

I honestly thought he’d apologize the next morning. Instead, it became our routine. Every night, I’d carry my pregnancy pillow down three flights of stairs and curl up in the back seat of our old Honda Civic. Corbin would text me around 6:30 a.m. “You can come back up now.”

Last Friday, everything changed. Around 2 a.m., headlights swept across the parking lot. A silver SUV pulled up beside my car. Someone knocked on my window. Standing there in her bathrobe was my mother-in-law, Eleanor. Her face went white. “I came because Corbin wasn’t answering his phone. I thought something happened. Why are you sleeping here?” she asked, in disbelief.

I burst into tears and told her everything. She whispered, “Oh my God… I can’t believe I raised a son like this.” Then she walked back to her SUV and returned fifteen minutes later, carrying one long package wrapped in brown paper. “Come with me,” she said quietly. “You don’t want to miss this.”

A Mother’s Quiet Fury

Eleanor didn’t say another word as she led me back to her luxurious SUV. Her house was a stark contrast to our cramped apartment – sprawling, elegant, filled with antiques. We went straight to the sunroom, overlooking a perfectly manicured garden. She gestured for me to sit on a plush velvet sofa.

“I’ve been worried about you both,” she said, her voice unusually soft. “Corbin hasn’t been… himself lately. Distant. Focused only on work.”

“He’s always been a bit self-absorbed, but this is… different,” I replied, rubbing my swollen ankles. “He used to be so excited about the baby.”

“That’s what I don’t understand,” Eleanor said, her brow furrowed. She turned to the package she’d brought and began to unwrap it. Inside, nestled in layers of bubble wrap, was a full-sized, antique four-poster bed. Complete with a luxurious mattress and crisp, white linens.

“What… what is this?” I stammered, completely bewildered.
