I Let a Billionaire’s Shoulder Hold My Crying Baby While My Ex Spies Me From the Sky

I Let a Billionaire’s Shoulder Hold My Crying Baby While My Ex Spies Me From the Sky Save

Boarding the Flight

My fingers trembled as I shoved the heavy duffel onto the conveyor, the metal wheels screeching like a warning.

Lily’s tiny hand clutched my wrist, her eyes wide as the boarding gate lights flickered.

Ethan’s Instagram story was still looping on my phone—a montage of his smile with a woman I didn’t recognize, the caption “new beginnings.”

I swallowed, feeling the sting of his lock click behind me, the apartment door now a cold, silent wall.

“Seat 21A,” the attendant called, and I forced a smile at the woman behind me, the one who had sighed, “Wonderful. A crying baby.”

Adrian’s voice cut through the murmurs, calm as a tide. “The baby didn’t choose this flight, ma’am. The adults can choose to be patient.”

He was already standing beside me, a white shirt under a navy sport coat, his beard neat, his eyes tired but steady.

He lifted Lily’s stroller with a practiced ease, retrieved a tiny plastic dinosaur that had fallen onto the aisle, and folded a napkin into a tiny airplane that made the baby giggle.

“Thank you,” I whispered, the words barely audible over the hum of the cabin.

He glanced at me, his name a soft echo, “Adrian.”

“Elena,” I replied, the name feeling foreign on my tongue.

He leaned in, his voice low. “Could I ask you something… strange?”

“How strange?” I asked, already fearing the answer.

“Could you pretend to fall asleep on my shoulder? They’re filming me.”

The thought of another camera made my skin prickle. I stared at his face, the exhaustion behind his eyes, the subtle tremor of a man who seemed to carry the weight of the world on his shoulders.

“If they think we’re just a tired family traveling together, maybe they’ll stop.”

I hesitated, the memory of Ethan’s betrayal still raw, but his calmness was oddly reassuring.

“Okay,” I said, adjusting Lily’s blanket, positioning my head against his shoulder, and letting the world blur into a quiet hum.

For a moment, the cabin faded. The hum of the engines, the soft rustle of passengers, the faint scent of coffee—they all seemed distant.

Exhaustion pressed against my eyelids, and I slipped into a brief, uneasy sleep, trusting a stranger’s shoulder to hold my fragile peace.

Mid‑Flight Tension

When I woke, Lily’s soft whimper cut through the lull. A young man a few rows ahead was smirking, his phone angled toward us.

His screen glowed, recording our cramped little tableau—him, the billionaire; me, the weary mother; Lily, the squirming bundle.

Adrian’s eyes flicked to the camera, and his jaw tightened. “They’re filming us,” he murmured, barely audible.

I felt a cold sweat bead on my forehead. “Why would they…?”

He didn’t answer, but his hand brushed the back of my neck, a silent command to stay still.

The cabin crew, previously unnoticed, began to shuffle past our row, their steps synchronized, eyes darting toward the young man’s phone.

“Excuse me, ma’am,” the flight attendant said, voice gentle but firm, “we need to ask you to put that device away.”

He rolled his eyes, muttering something about “journalists,” and slipped the phone into his jacket.

Adrian’s gaze never left the aisle, his posture rigid. He whispered, “Stay calm, Elena. They’re not just curious.”

My heart hammered. The notion that someone was tracking me—beyond Ethan’s petty revenge—felt absurd and terrifying.

The plane’s descent began, the wheels rattling against the runway, and the cabin lights dimmed as the aircraft taxied to the gate.

Outside, a sleek black van rolled up, its side doors sliding open to reveal two men in dark suits, their earpieces blinking.
