I Was Wrongfully Sentenced While My Husband’s Secret Betrayal Unraveled Our Family’s Darkest Lies

I Was Wrongfully Sentenced While My Husband’s Secret Betrayal Unraveled Our Family’s Darkest Lies Save

Chad’s Smirk, My Handcuffs, and a Whispered Promise

“Enjoy your ten years, Genevieve,” Chad whispered, his grin cutting through the clank of the steel door.

“Brenda and I will know what to do with the money you left behind.” His voice was a cold echo in the hallway.

I felt the weight of the cuffs settle, the rough metal biting my skin, but my eyes stayed on the guard’s face.

He didn’t see the folded note tucked into his palm, the one I’d slipped to him a breath before the transport stopped.

“Call this number,” I’d whispered, “Tell Christopher Lindqvist his daughter has just been sentenced for something she didn’t do.”

The van shuddered to a halt, lawyers filed in, and the man with the phoenix‑bronze cufflinks—Christopher Lindqvist—stepped forward, his gaze steady.

“Chad thinks he stole two million from your company,” he said quietly, as if the walls might hear.

I nodded, and he shook his head, his eyes narrowing. “No, daughter. He stole my money.”

His hand trembled as he slid a thin envelope across the table. Inside was a single, burn‑proof card, its surface glinting under the fluorescent light.

“Mara,” he said, “the librarian. She knows you’ll need this.”

The next morning, the prison’s concrete corridors smelled of bleach and stale coffee. I followed the echo of soft footsteps to the small library, a dim room lined with dusty spines.

Mara emerged from behind a stack of legal manuals, her glasses slipping down her nose. “You’re Genevieve,” she said, voice a hush.

She reached into the pocket of her cardigan, fingers brushing a seam. “I have something for you.”

Her palm opened, revealing a microSD card hidden beneath a folded page of poetry. “It’s encrypted,” she whispered, “but it’s all the servers you need.”

I felt a surge of cold fire. “What is it?”

“Proof,” she said, eyes flickering to the guard at the door. “Chad’s false identity, the siphoned funds. He’s been doing this for years.”

She pressed the card into my hand, the plastic cool against my skin.

“Don’t get caught,” she warned, sliding a thin wooden bookmark into my bag. “Use it wisely.”

The guard’s key turned, the door clicked shut, and I slipped the microSD into the pocket of my jumpsuit, heart hammering against my ribs.

The Workshop, Luis, and the Moment the Guard Storms In

The workshop smelled of oil and metal, the clatter of tools a rhythm to my thoughts.

I set up a makeshift workstation on a battered table, a rusted pipe used as a stand for my laptop.

“Luis,” I typed, the name blinking on the screen, “I need a covert dump. I have the source.”

His reply came quickly, a series of encrypted keys and a promise: “Give me the card. I’ll route it through the dark net. Ten minutes.”

My fingers trembled as I slid the microSD into the laptop’s slot, the tiny click loud in the hush.

The screen flooded with green code, a cascade of numbers that seemed to pulse with life.

“Initiating transfer now,” Luis messaged, “You’ll have the files in twelve minutes.”

I watched the progress bar inch forward, each percent a heartbeat.

Outside, the clang of a metal door reverberated, then the distant murmur of a guard’s radio.

“All right, ladies, time for a surprise inspection,” a voice called, echoing down the corridor.

My breath caught. The guard’s boots thudded closer, the metal door swinging open.

He stopped dead at the table, eyes narrowing on the laptop’s glow.
