Escape Into the Night

She slipped the bag from the safe and felt the weight of a thousand stolen secrets settle against her hip.

Every step echoed on the polished marble, a hollow thud that seemed louder than the quiet hum of the building's HVAC.

She glanced at the digital clock on the wall—02:13 a.m. The alarms began to shriek, a metallic wail that cut through the night.

Her pulse hammered, matching the frantic beeping of the security system.

She slipped through the glass doors, the cool air of the hallway giving way to a stale, concrete corridor that led down.

The emergency lights flickered, casting a sickly amber glow on the tile.

Her breath came in short, ragged bursts as she descended toward the underground parking garage.

She could already hear the distant footfalls of security, the distant clatter of boots on metal.

She reached the far end, where the parking gates were beginning to rise, their motors whining in protest.

Her hand tightened around the leather strap of the bag, feeling the soft rustle of cash and the cold glint of watches within.

She pushed the doors open, the night outside swallowing her silhouette as she sprinted toward her sleek black sedan.

Confrontation in the Shadows

She fumbled with the key fob, the metal cool and slick in her trembling fingers.

The engine roared to life, a low growl that seemed to vibrate the very air around her.

She heard a soft click behind her—a door closing, the sound of a weight shifting in the darkness.

She turned, heart slamming against her ribs, and saw a silhouette step into the weak halo of the parking lot’s amber light.

It was him—Victor, his silhouette framed by the distant glow of the streetlamps, a pistol glinting in his hand.

His face was a mask of fury, eyes narrowed, teeth clenched as if the very sight of her betrayal had ignited a storm inside him.

"Thought you could run?" he snarled, voice low, trembling with a mix of rage and disbelief.

The gun trembled in his grip, the metal warm from his hand, the barrel pointing directly at her chest.

Maya's mind raced, the bag at her feet feeling suddenly heavier than ever.

She tried to speak, but the words caught in her throat, a dry rasp in the cold night air.

Victor took a step forward, the shadows swallowing his outline, his gun never wavering.

"Tell me where the safe deposit box is," he demanded, voice cracking, "or the next bullet will be yours."

His hand shook, the warehouse lights flickering ominously above, casting a strobe of fear across their faces.

Victor's Ultimatum

Victor slammed the car door shut, the gun glinting in the streetlight as he slid into the passenger seat.

"You think you can walk out of that office with my money and my secrets?" he snarled, his voice low and dangerous.

Maya's fingers tightened around the steering wheel, the leather cold beneath her palms.

"Victor, I—"

"No more explanations." He jabbed the barrel toward her temple. "Drive."
