I Forgave My Ex‑Wife After a Decade of Pain, Offering Her Help Only If She Accepts My One Unbreakable Condition

I Forgave My Ex‑Wife After a Decade of Pain, Offering Her Help Only If She Accepts My One Unbreakable Condition Save

She Sat Down, and I Laid Out the Deal

“Take a seat, Katherine,” I said, pushing the wheelchair to the kitchen table. The girls, Greta and Amelia, lingered at the edge, their eyes wide, waiting.

She lowered herself onto the chair, the worn boots rubbing the floorboards. My voice stayed even, the hum of the fridge the only backdrop.

“You need help. I can give it. But I won’t hand you cash.”

She stared at the cracked edge of the countertop, the coffee stain from earlier still dark.

“Your debt. It’s yours, but I’ll let you pay it by working for us.”

“The online store,” I continued, gesturing to the laptop that always sat open beside me. “You’ll manage orders, handle the shipping, update the listings. Every cent you earn goes straight to the balance.”

Greta watched from the doorway, arms folded, a hint of skepticism in her posture. Amelia tugged at her sleeve, curious but silent.

“No money upfront,” I added, feeling the weight of a decade in each word. “Just work. Prove you can carry what you’ve lost.”

Katherine’s eyes flicked to the girls, then back to me. She swallowed, a tremor in her throat, and nodded.

“Alright,” she whispered, the desperation barely hidden. “I’ll do it.”

The Spill That Shattered More Than a Screen

She lunged for the laptop, fingers trembling, trying to grip the thin edge of the metal case.

Her foot caught the fringe of the rug, and the world tipped.

“Whoa—” the words left my mouth too late.

The coffee mug airborne, a dark plume arcing toward the laptop.

It hit the screen with a sickening crack, the glass spiderwebbing outward as the liquid seeped into the keyboard.

Static whispered from the machine, then fell silent.

Greta’s gasp cut the kitchen air, and Amelia froze, eyes wide on the shattered display.

“The server’s down,” I heard her say, voice flat, as the reality sank in.

Orders that had been queued for weeks now hung in limbo, customers’ emails blinking unanswered.

The online store’s heart – the server that kept our business alive – was offline.

My mind raced: the weeks of prep, the shipments ready to go, the revenue we’d counted on.

Katherine stared at the mess, the coffee pooling, the broken glass, her own hands shaking.

She whispered, “I’m sorry,” but the words felt hollow against the flicker of panic that surged through the house.

Greta’s Race Down the Stairs

“What happened?” I shouted, the words bubbling up before I could stop them.

Greta burst from the living room, sneakers squeaking on the hardwood, hair a wild halo of panic.
