I Finally Chose My Daughter Over My Husband’s Lies and Walked Into the Gala Unbound by His Power

I Finally Chose My Daughter Over My Husband’s Lies and Walked Into the Gala Unbound by His Power Save

Escaping the Albright Mansion

I lifted Hazel, still trembling, from the marble floor and felt the cold bite of the night air through the hallway’s cracked windows.

“You’re not leaving,” Spencer hissed, stepping forward, his cufflinks glinting like a threat.

“No, I’m taking my daughter and I’m going to the hospital,” I said, voice steady despite the tremor in my hands.

Cassandra slid a hand across the back of his neck, her fingers slick with perfume and spite. “You’ll regret this, Gwen. You’ll lose everything.”

I slipped the car keys from my pocket, the metal cold against my palm, and pushed open the front door.

The engine roared to life, drowning out Spencer’s angry bark, “You’ll see what happens when you cross me!”

Hazel clutched my shirt, her small fingers digging into the fabric as blood stained her lips. I whispered, “We’re safe now, sweetie. No one can touch you again.”

The mansion’s lights faded behind us, and the city lights stretched ahead, a promise of a place where my call could finally bite.

Hospital Confrontation

At the emergency wing, Dr. Morales met us with a gentle smile, his stethoscope humming softly as he examined Hazel’s bruised cheek.

“She’s lucky,” he said, his voice warm, “a few stitches and she’ll be fine. You did the right thing bringing her in.”

I let out a breath I didn’t realize I’d been holding, feeling the weight lift just a fraction.

My phone buzzed. Thomas on the other end, his tone urgent yet calm: “The audits are live, the freezes are set. The Albright accounts are on hold. They can’t move a cent.”

A surge of cold steel steadied me. I hung up, eyes narrowing as Spencer and Patricia burst through the sliding doors, their faces twisted with rage.

“We demand to see the child,” Spencer snarled, his voice echoing off the sterile tiles.

Patricia stepped forward, hand outstretched, “You’ll regret this, Gwen. Legal counsel will crush you.”

I planted myself between their outstretched hands and Hazel’s tiny frame, feeling the pulse of my father’s support humming beneath my skin.

“You’ll have to go through me,” I said, voice low, “and I have the power to keep you out.”

Security swarmed, their radios crackling. “Both of you, step back!” an officer barked.

Patricia lunged, but a guard’s grip yanked her away; Spencer’s fists were snapped by another. The doors slammed shut, the clatter of their forced exit reverberating through the hallway.

“We’re not done,” I whispered to Hazel, the tension electric, as the room fell silent, the next move already forming in my mind.

Hospital Showdown

Patricia slipped into the hallway, her heels clicking like a metronome of accusation.

“You’ll regret filing that call, Gwen,” she hissed, eyes flashing cold steel.

Spencer stepped beside her, his jaw clenched. “Legal action will be swift. You’ll lose everything.”

I turned, cradling Hazel’s small hand, feeling the faint tremor of her pulse against my palm.

“You think you can intimidate me with lawsuits?” I asked, voice steady despite the surge of adrenaline.

Patricia sneered, “Your husband’s estate will crush you.”

Spencer’s smile was a razor. “We own the hospital’s wing. Security will… cooperate.”

A nurse emerged, her uniform crisp, eyes widening at the tension.

“Doctor Alvarez?” she whispered, hand hovering over the call button.

“Yes, I need a moment,” I replied, pulling the cord from the wall and holding it in my fist.

“My father is Mr. Crawford,” I said, the words landing like a gavel. “He’s already filed a restraining order and is preparing to seize any assets you try to hide.”

The nurse’s gasp was audible.

“Mr. Crawford?” Patricia’s composure cracked, a flicker of fear crossing her face.

Spencer swore under his breath, glancing at the security camera above.

Two uniformed officers entered, their presence shifting the atmosphere from hostile to procedural.
