I Walked Into the Hospital and Saw My Ex‑Wife Holding Twin Boys Who Look Exactly Like Me

I Walked Into the Hospital and Saw My Ex‑Wife Holding Twin Boys Who Look Exactly Like Me Save

Shock in the Corridor

The hospital corridor smelled of disinfectant and reheated coffee.

Outside, the rain fell with that fine, persistent insistence typical of Seattle, as if the city itself were keeping a secret.

I froze.

Claire stood there, thinner, hair pulled back simply, dressed without luxury.

But the children—two little boys, about four or five—held her hands.

They were identical to me: dark eyes, the same slant in their smile that’s been called arrogant.

My heart hammered against my ribs.

“Claire?” my voice came out lower than I expected.

She looked up, and for a second the past rewound: the house in Bellevue, the arguments, the signed divorce papers.

Her expression hardened.

“You shouldn’t be here,” she said, firm, not yelling.

The left boy stared at me with curiosity; the right boy hid slightly behind his mother.

“Are they…?” I could not finish.

Claire squeezed their tiny hands.

“We have to go.” She tried to step past me.

I stepped forward, blocking her path without realizing it.

“You… you couldn’t have children,” I said, half accusation, half plea.

A heavy silence fell.

Claire met my gaze, no longer the woman who begged for explanations.

She was stronger, more tired.

“That’s what you thought,” she replied.

The boys watched me.

“Mommy… who is he?” the left boy whispered.

Claire hesitated, then closed her eyes as if gathering strength.

“He is someone who is no longer a part of our lives.” Her words were clean, precise, final.

But the boy’s intense stare lingered, and something inside me cracked… or perhaps woke.

Claire’s Dark Reveal

“The twins are the result of a secret sperm donation I arranged years ago,” Claire said, voice flat.

She stepped back, eyes darting to the hallway’s fluorescent tubes.

“Stay away, Ethan.” The words cut like glass.

I felt the urge to reach for the file Claire had left on the nearby bench—a file labeled “Donation.”

My hand hovered, trembling.
