I Walked Into My Past at the Tournament and Finally Faced the Twins I Abandoned Fifteen Years Ago

I Walked Into My Past at the Tournament and Finally Faced the Twins I Abandoned Fifteen Years Ago Save

The Moment the Names Echoed

The auditorium’s lights glared off the polished stage, and the host’s voice bounced off the vaulted ceiling.

“And now, the Grand Prize for the most outstanding minds in this year’s tournament—a perfect score never before achieved—goes to the twin brothers… Leo Bennett and Ethan Bennett!”

A burst of applause surged, but my ears caught only the thudding of my own heart.

The LED screens flickered to life, showing two fifteen‑year‑old faces that mirrored my own teenage stare.

Bridge of the nose, sharp jawline—my own reflection, magnified.

Their eyes, however, were Claire’s: dark, steady, impossibly calm.

I felt the weight of fifteen years crash into the present, a panic rising like cold water in my lungs.

Claire’s name floated in the background of the announcement, a ghost I had tried to bury.

My hands tightened around the lapel of my suit, the fabric suddenly a noose.

Behind me, Eleanor’s smile thinned, her eyes narrowing as she watched the screens.

“Bennett,” the host repeated, and the name struck me like a hammer.

All the wealth, the status, the curated life I’d built felt suddenly fragile, as if a single breath could shatter it.

Eleanor’s Fury and the Tense Standoff

“What is this?” Eleanor snapped, rising from her seat, her voice slicing through the applause.

“There has to be a mistake! Where is Preston’s name?” she demanded, slamming her palm against the velvet railing.

The surrounding guests turned, their smiles frozen, as the murmurs rose like a low tide.

“I paid for the best preparation available! How does my son lose to two boys nobody even knows?” she shouted, eyes blazing at me.

I lifted my hand, pulling her wrist away with a calm I didn’t feel.

“Eleanor,” I said, voice low, “stop.”

She stared, fury flickering to something darker—an unease she’d never shown before.

Behind the rows, Claire remained seated, her expression unreadable, her gaze fixed on the stage.

My suit suddenly felt unbearably tight; the polished hall seemed to close in.

“Do not say another word about those boys,” I whispered, feeling the edges of my past sharpening.

She hissed, “You’re the primary sponsor. Demand a recount! Get those boys disqualified!”

I stepped toward the podium, the polished wood cool under my shoes, the audience’s eyes tracking every move.

As I approached, Eleanor lunged, her hand gripping my arm with desperate strength.

“I will expose everything you hid,” she threatened, voice trembling with a mix of anger and something else.

Just then the lights flickered, a stutter of shadows across the room.
