After Hearing He Never Wanted to Marry Me, I Gave Him the Shock of His Life One Week Later

After Hearing He Never Wanted to Marry Me, I Gave Him the Shock of His Life One Week Later Save

After the Phone Incident

When I stepped into the kitchen, the muffled echo of his laugh still lingered in the hallway.

I pretended to scroll through my phone, letting the hum of the refrigerator mask the tremor in my hands.

Adrian was still on the couch, his headphones plugged in, oblivious to the storm I was brewing.

I slipped the tiny camera into the living‑room lamp, its lens barely a speck of plastic. The click was softer than a sigh.

"You think this is a game?" I whispered to the empty room, feeling the weight of every promise I’d kept.

Later, I pulled his laptop from the desk drawer, opened his banking tab, and printed the last six months of statements.

My fingers traced the line items: rent, groceries, a strange recurring charge at a boutique I’d never heard of.

Adrian’s back was turned when the printer whirred, and I slipped the sheets into a folder labeled “Truth.”

Each night after work, I’d sit on the floor, the camera’s red LED blinking like a silent witness.

He never questioned why the living‑room wall seemed a little more cluttered; the pictures of us were still there, but the air felt different.

By the time the sun rose on the third day, I was ready to open the next door.

Discovery in the Locked Drawer

It was past midnight; the house was quiet except for the soft whir of the fridge and my own breathing.

I stood before Adrian’s desk, the old mahogany piece that still held his coffee mugs and an unspoken authority.

The top drawer opened easily, revealing his usual clutter – pens, a notepad, a half‑eaten granola bar.

My eyes dropped to a smaller, locked compartment on the side. The key was hidden under the desk leg, a place only he would think to hide it.

I turned the key, and the drawer gave way with a faint sigh.

Inside lay a stack of handwritten letters, each envelope sealed with a kiss‑shaped stamp.

The name on the front read “Lena.” My stomach tightened with each page I lifted.

"Lena?" I whispered, the word tasting like ash.

Before I could read the first line, I heard his footsteps on the hallway carpet.

He entered, his eyebrows furrowing as he saw me holding the letters.

"Maya… what are you doing?" he asked, voice a mixture of surprise and defensiveness.

I held the top letter up, the camera perched above the sofa catching his eyes widen.

"Explain," I said, the word sharp as a blade.

His mouth opened, then closed, as if the words were stuck in a throat he couldn't reach.

The hidden camera flashed once, recording his stunned silence.

Adrian Tries to Explain

He stepped into the kitchen, eyes darting toward the stack of papers on the counter.

"Maya, you have to hear me out," he said, voice tight.
