Three Days After My Emergency C-Section, My Husband Tried to Steal My Daughters and My Future

Three Days After My Emergency C-Section, My Husband Tried to Steal My Daughters and My Future Save

Signing the Papers

Three days after an emergency C‑section, I could barely sit up in that hospital bed when Holden walked in.

He brought Sienna with him, the assistant who had been finding more and more reasons to be around him over the past year.

"The lawyer simplified everything," he said, sliding an envelope onto my breakfast tray, calm, almost bored.

He’d take full custody of the twins. I’d get three million dollars. And I would vanish from his life without any further complications.

Sienna stood just behind him, eyes fixed somewhere past my shoulder.

I glanced at my daughters, asleep near the window, sunlight falling soft across the blankets. One of them made a small sound in her sleep.

Holden didn’t even glance their way.

I lifted the pen, feeling the weight of every year I’d spent building our company, managing the books, keeping the whole operation from falling apart more times than he ever knew.

Without a word of protest, I signed.

My hand trembled, not from pain but from the secret I was about to hide.

While his gaze lingered on the paper, I slipped a tiny USB drive into the envelope, the little black chip that contained all the proof I’d gathered in secret.

“You’ll thank me later,” I whispered to the empty room, promising myself that the truth would surface.

Midnight Escape

The night nurse—her name was Lila, eyes weary from endless shifts—came in with a quiet nod.

“You can leave, just this once,” she whispered, handing me a folded blanket and a key to the back door.

I clutched the USB like a lifeline, the plastic cool against my palm.

We slipped through the dim hallway, the hum of machines fading behind us.

When the elevator doors opened onto the parking garage, a security guard blocked the exit, his flashlight sweeping the concrete.

“Step aside,” he barked, his badge flashing in the low light.

Before I could answer, Holden emerged from the shadows, his silhouette framed by the flickering fluorescents.

“Hand it over,” he demanded, voice low and dangerous, eyes locked on the drive.

Sienna stood beside him, expression unreadable, the same cold mask she always wore.

My heart pounded; the USB burned in my pocket.

“You don’t understand what’s at stake,” I said, trying to buy a second.

Holden’s lips twitched. “You think you can ruin everything?”

Suddenly, Maya’s voice cut through the tension—she’d arrived unnoticed, clutching a coat.

“Leave her alone, Holden,” Maya said, stepping forward.

Sienna’s hand flicked to her belt, pulling out a sleek pistol.

“Enough,” she hissed, gun trained on Maya and me.
