In the Delivery Room, I Faced Betrayal from the One Person I Thought Would Save Me Save

Awakening to Reality

I blinked against the harsh hospital lights, confusion swirling in my mind. Julian sat at my bedside, his face ashen, eyes wide with a mix of guilt and fear. “Aria, I’m so sorry,” he breathed. But his apology felt distant, like echoes in a canyon, and his voice was laced with an urgency that made my stomach churn.

Searching his expression, I saw the cracks forming in his carefully constructed facade. He was more worried about the fallout from my delivery than my well-being. “What happened?” My throat was dry, each word a struggle. My body was still reeling, the pain a throbbing reminder of everything I had just endured.

“You... you lost a lot of blood,” he stammered, his gaze dropping to his hands clasped tightly in his lap. “But you’re stable now. That’s what matters.”

I wanted to scream, to shake him. Stability? While I lay here shattered? Just then, the door swung open, and my mother stepped in, her brow furrowed with worry. Her expression shifted instantly, however, as she locked eyes with Julian. Tension crackled in the air like static electricity.

“What happened?” Mom demanded, arms crossed. Her voice was sharp, disdain barely concealed.

Julian shifted, his discomfort now palpable. “Aria is recovering,” he replied, a touch too defensively. “That’s the main concern.”

“Of course it is,” she shot back, the words dripping with sarcasm. I could sense the unresolved issues between them, a history that lingered just beneath the surface. My mother had never trusted him, and now, their icy exchanges cast a shadow over my fragile state.

Unraveling Secrets

The hospital room felt stifling, and the murmur of voices outside drew my attention. As I began to regain my strength, curiosity gnawed at me. What were they discussing that felt so urgent? I shifted in bed, my heart racing as I strained to listen.

“I just don’t think she’s capable of handling the pressure,” Julian said, his voice low but urgent. “With all her accolades, she still needs to know her limits.”

The words hit me like a slap. Did he really believe that? “She’s being discharged tomorrow,” Serena replied, her tone too smooth, too rehearsed. “How do you think she’ll take it? Are you ready for the fallout?”

“I’m not worried,” Julian asserted. “She’s always overshadowed me. It’s time she knows that ambition has consequences.” The chill in his voice cemented my unease.

Ambition? Was that what he thought of me? I lay there, stunned, feeling the walls of my world close in. How could my husband, my partner, see my career as a threat instead of a source of pride?

“You know she didn’t mean to—" Serena interjected, but my breath caught. Why was she defending me? What role did she really play in all of this?

Then, with a hard edge in Julian's voice, he added, “If you don’t manage this carefully, she’ll come after you, too.” My heart sank as I realized there was more to their relationship than I initially thought, leaving me feeling betrayed.

Confronting Julian

The sterile walls of my hospital room felt like they were closing in as I sat on the edge of my bed, my heart pounding. I had to confront him. “Julian,” I called, my voice trembling with a mix of anger and hurt. “We need to talk about what happened during the delivery.”

He turned away from the window, his expression unreadable. “What’s there to discuss, Aria? I made the best decision for our child.” His tone was dismissive, as if he were talking about a medical chart rather than the life of our baby.
