“Come Find Me”
Ava's hands trembled as she hit send. The message was simple—just two words: “Come find me.” But the weight of those words felt like a crushing burden against her chest. What had she done?
Memories of Damon flooded her mind: late-night conversations on park benches, laughter shared over coffee, the friendship that had once been a lifeline. How had she let it slip away? A pang of regret twisted in her gut; she had chosen Richard, hadn’t she? She had believed in the fairy tale, only to find herself in a nightmare.
Every second dragged painfully as she waited for his response. The rain soaked through her dress, pulling her further into the cold reality of the night. She glanced at her phone, the cracked screen barely lighting up. Had it been too long? Was he even available?
Fear wormed through her, reminding her of Richard’s seething fury. But relief was there too, a flicker of hope. If Damon came, maybe she could escape this hell. She leaned against the cold wall, her heart racing, straining to hear the music inside the club—a cruel reminder of the world she had almost been part of.
And then, her phone buzzed. Just one word illuminated the screen: “Coming.”
Damon's Arrival
The rain continued to pour as Damon pulled up to the country club, his heart pounding with urgency. He caught sight of Ava, trembling on the pavement, her mascara smudged and dress torn. “Ava!” he shouted, rushing toward her.
“Damon…” Her voice cracked, relief flooding her features. He wrapped his arms around her, pulling her into a tight embrace. “What happened?” he asked, his voice low and steady, scanning her face for answers.
“Richard...” She swallowed hard, the words choking her. “He hit me.”
His expression hardened. “You need to get away from him.”
Ava nodded, tears mingling with the rain. “I don’t know how. He’s... he’s dangerous, Damon. He always finds a way to control me.” She glanced back toward the club, dread creeping back in her throat.
“We’ll figure it out,” he said, gripping her shoulders as if to anchor her. “Tell me everything.”
As she recounted the evening, the panic in her voice drew Damon’s attention. “Listen, I’ll help you escape. I have a plan.”
Ava searched his face, a mixture of hope and fear swirling in her chest. “But what if he finds us? He’s unpredictable.”
“He won’t.” Just as Damon prepared to strategize, he froze, his eyes darting toward the entrance of the club.
Richard stormed out, fury etched across his features. “What do you think you’re doing, Pierce?” he spat, his voice a venomous hiss.
Ava’s heart raced. Damon stepped forward, ready to confront him, but paused, his expression shifting as he registered something ominous.
“He’s already called the police,” Damon whispered, dread blooming in his stomach. The night was growing darker, and the stakes were rising.
